Out of the All-Star break, there are a number of factors to consider. It wouldn't be out of the question to fade those who took part in the festivities, and with a number of high-end hurlers taking the hill Friday, there aren't as many depth options available. Jose Fernandez looks like lineup headliner, but there are a couple other sneaky arms capable of providing a little more cap relief.
Pitchers
Noah Syndergaard (R), Mets
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp | FIP | K% | GB% | Opp Run Total | Moneyline |
$8,400 | $9,300 | @STL | 2.61 | 26.3 | 45.1 | 3.5 | +118 |
The Metropolitan rookie has fine-tuned his mound routine and returned 38 punchouts through 32 innings over his past five outings. During the span, opposing hitters are sporting a .168/.220/.265 line, too. St. Louis enters averaging four runs per outing over their past 10 games and with a lineup potentially missing a few key cogs.
Syndergaard could be hard up to notch the four-point win bonus, but count on his solid run to continue. His ownership projects to be low, as well.
Kyle Hendricks (R), Cubs
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp | FIP | K% | GB% | Opp Run Total | Moneyline |
$7,300 | $7,600 | @ATL | 3.33 | 19.8 | 49.5 | 3.5 | -126 |
Currently riding a 22.2 inning scoreless stretch, Hendricks has recaptured the magic he flashed at the end of last season. He has been up and down all season, though. Still, he has allowed two runs or fewer in 10 of his 17 starts, and when he is in a groove he is capable of pitching deep into games. He has only topped 100 pitches in one start this season and rarely allows a free pass.
The Braves offense only mustered 11 runs over a four-game span at Coors Field before the break, and finished the unofficial first half with a five-game losing streak.
Top Hitters
Buster Posey (R), Giants
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs LHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs LHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs LHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$4,400 | $4,100 | Robbie Ray LHP | 0.417 | 0.241 | 174 | 4 | 4 |
Against lefties, Posey is one of the surest bets in baseball. He hasn't been as dominating this season, but still has five doubles, two long flies and 11 RBI over 72 plate appearances versus southpaws. For his career, the backstop checks into the game with a .327/.386/.564 slash line with a .238 ISO and .404 wOBA.
Just note, Robbie Ray has been dealing of late. However, Posey's ownership could be down because of Ray's recent run.
Lorenzo Cain (R), Royals
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs LHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs LHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs LHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$4,000 | $5,000 | John Danks LHP | 0.352 | 0.142 | 124 | 3 | 4 |
Cain sports a .469 on-base percentage over his past 23 games and 96 plate appearances with 17 runs, four home runs and 18 RBI during the stretch. With the handedness advantage against batting-practice-hurler Danks, Cain is a high-floor option in a plus-matchup.
For interest sake, Cain is just 2-for-17 over 19 plate appearances facing Danks, so call it a hunch that Cain is due. After all, he has a 1.002 OPS, .189 ISO and .430 wOBA against lefties this season.
Carlos Santana (S), Indians
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$3,400 | $3,900 | Mike Leake RHP | 0.347 | 0.194 | 124 | 2 | 3.5 |
Santana has been a notoriously slow starter, but 2015 has been nightmarish for the converted backstop. Over his past 13 games entering the break, though, he went 11-for-39 with a .853 OPS. He has a .860 OPS, a .215 ISO and a .376 wOBA in the second half since 2011, which is a huge upgrade over his .737-.181-.335 first-half line during the same timeframe.
Xander Bogaerts (R), Red Sox
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs LHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs LHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs LHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$3,000 | $4,000 | C.J. Wilson LHP | 0.354 | 0.150 | 124 | 6 | 3.5 |
With a .315/.333/.432 slash line, 15 runs and 20 RBI over his past 26 games, Bogaerts is heating up with the weather. He is also locked into the heart of the order and sports a .849 OPS and .371 wOBA against southpaws this season. The prices haven't quite up to his production, either.
Kyle Schwarber (L), Cubs
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$2,600 | Julio Teheran RHP | 0.426 | 0.294 | 174 | 6 | 3.5 |
While Teheran has been much better working at home, Schwarber is cheap and boasts high-end upside. He has been unfazed at the highest level, and the only road block is him failing to crack the starting lineup. The backstop mashed his way to a .333/.403/.633 slash line with seven runs, seven doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI through 17 games at Triple-A Iowa.
Value and Platoon Plays
J.T. Realmuto (C - MIA ) FD: $3,000 DK: $3,100
The catcher is batting .333 (19-for-57) against southpaws this season with six doubles and a home run. The .903 OPS, .193 ISO and .385 wOBA are nice targets, too. Adam Morgan has a 6.62 FIP and was beat around in his last outing (five runs over four innings).
Adam Lind (1B - MIL) FD: $4,300 DK: $4,500
You won't find Lind on the cheap anymore, and Charlie Morton has the ability to limit the damage. Still, the Brewers entered the break scorching hot offensively, and Lind was a huge contributor. He has a .247 ISO and .402 wOBA versus. righties this season.
Adeiny Hechavarria (SS - MIA) FD: $2,300 DK: $3,000
Hechavarria is cheap and absolutely loves facing lefties. He has .976 OPS and .423 wOBA with a .369 batting average against them. Plus, his 34 percent hard-hit rate is impressive for a middle infielder.
Melky Cabrera (OF - CHW) FD: $2,900 DK: $3,800
Since bottoming out to start the season, Cabrera has heated up over the past 30 games with a .330/.382/.505 slash line. It isn't a slam-dunk matchup against Edinson Volquez, but Cabrera is hitting cleanup and is in fine form at a reasonable price.
David Peralta (OF - ARI) FD: $4,000 DK: $3,900
A far better value at Draft Kings, Peralta is rolling at the dish with 12 runs, four doubles, three triples, three home runs 11 RBI and a .313/.429/.609 slash line over the past 18 games. He boasts a career .294/.345/.499 line against righties, too.
