Cash Game Locks: MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball

Cash games typically reward high floor rosters. You don't need to score 60 points on FanDuel or 160 on DraftKings to win money. Instead you should aim for a nice base of around 40 and 120 points respectively. Our MLB Cash Game Picks will highlight the top pick and a value pick at each position for both platforms.

We have a short slate on our hands this evening, and as you can probably tell by the pitching, it is not a strong night in that area. Chris Sale is the lone ace tonight, and although he has a tough matchup, it is hard to overlook him with the others on the bump. Sale has looked sharp in his return from injury, allowing three earned and striking out 14 in two starts. He had an elite strikeout percentage in 2014, at 30.4%, which was just a shade under Clayton Kershaw. He brings big strikeout potential every night.

On FanDuel, I can pick Sale and just forget about it, DraftKings is another story. Clay Buchholz looked great against Philadelphia on Opening Day, then has looked mediocre in his last two starts. He did hold Baltimore to two runs in his last start, but allowed 11 hits. The good from that game was he struck out seven. His strikeouts are up to start the year with a 24.7% strikeout rate. The Rays offense has been what many expected it to be this season, and that is below average. They hold a team .295 wOBA and a 21% strikeout rate versus right-handed pitching so far this season.

The game in Toronto has the best shot of being an offensive showdown tonight, according to Vegas. I am on board with that as well, especially after Toronto chased Chris Tillman after two innings last time out. Catcher is very limited tonight, but Russell Martin is in play in tonight in a projected high scoring game. Martin has had steady numbers against right-handed pitching over the last three years. Tillman has allowed a 1.39 HR/9 over the last three seasons to right-handed bats. The Rogers Centre is not a place you want to pitch with that type of statistic.

Stephen Vogt faces a young right-handed pitcher tonight, and he hits in a prime spot in the order for fantasy value. He is my favorite catching play on the board tonight, and this is the next best game to look for fantasy production in. Vogt handled right-handed pitching well in 2014, with a .337 wOBA.

The Rogers Centre has a park factor of 123 over the last three seasons in home runs to right-handed bats. There are not many more bats powerful than Edwin Encarnacion. He ranked first in ISO vs. right-handed pitching in 2014, and Tillman is prone to giving up the long ball. The price tag is steep, but he is a guy I will be fitting into my lineups tonight.

Billy Butler comes in as a tremendous value play tonight, and he has had quite a start to the 2015 season in Oakland. He is hitting over .350 against right-handed pitching, and has found some power with two homers in the series already. For a value first baseman, especially on FanDuel with Sale, he is a prime target.

There is no elite play at second base today, which gives us a chance to go cheap. Jimmy Paredes will likely hit in the top of the lineup versus the right-handed pitcher Hutchison. He has seen more time this season with Jonathan Schoop hitting the DL, and also with Steve Pearce struggling. He is a bare minimum play on DraftKings, but is not eligible at second base, just third base and outfield. Be sure to check the lineups beforehand. He has played in four of the last five, but is a utility play.

Devon Travis is my favorite play on DraftKings at second base today. He is off to a fantastic start in 2015, and he's earned a spot in the top of the lineup. I will be attacking Chris Tillman today at the Rogers Centre, another right-handed bat for me here. He has showcased some power, with three home runs on the season, which leads to 13 RBI. A great price for him on DK today.

Jose Reyes is a FanDuel play, as I'd rather insert Hanley Ramirez with his eligibility there at DraftKings, since they are the same price. Hanley just has more of an upside to his game at the moment. Reyes is usually a top play at shortstop, given hitting in Toronto and who he is hitting in front of. He is not a bad price on FanDuel tonight, and with limited options anyway. It is always nice to have a table-setter in your lineup.

Erick Aybar's price leads to him being a value play tonight. The Angels face Jesse Chavez tonight, who has a 3.91 FIP when facing left-handed bats. Los Angeles has a streaky offense, but I will lean on them to score some runs today. Aybar hitting sixth is a fairly decent spot for him as well.

Yes, another Toronto bat. I am a big fan of Josh Donaldson tonight, and he seems to be a fan of the Rogers Centre so far, hitting .424 with three home runs. He could easily be priced over $5,000 tonight on DraftKings, so this is not high for him at all. At FanDuel, he is a little tougher to squeeze in with a guy like Sale. Donaldson is in the top of the league in most categories right no. He is an elite option tonight.

Brett Lawrie is your value play at third base today, or second if you please on DraftKings. Lawrie does not have flashy numbers versus right-handed pitching, but should be productive against a a young righty. The A's rank in the top 10 in team offense so far this season. This will not be an easy game for Nick Tropeano.

Kole Calhoun has a great price and matchup tonight against Chavez. He is a stud hitting leadoff for this Angels team and is an above average fantasy player. He really broke out last year with a .348 wOBA and a .190 ISO against right-handed pitching. Chavez had a 3.91 FIP versus left-handed bats last season. His price makes him a little more appealing to me, especially on FanDuel.

The Orioles have a few left-handed bats, but a guy like Chris Davis is not suited for cash games. Alejandro De Aza is a guy who is a bit more consistent. I love his price on both sites tonight, while the matchup is a great one. Hutchison has allowed a .339 wOBA to left-handed bats so far in the majors. De Aza is not a huge home run threat, but a 1.44 HR/9 to left-handed bats from Hutchison is a boost as well.

Outside of Melky Cabrera and Jose Abreu, I am not loving this team for cash games. Yordano Ventura has struggled so far this season, which leads me to like Chicago in tournaments at home. Cabrera has nine hits in four games and is starting to beat that slow start. Melky has torched right-handed pitching over the last three seasons, and Chicago is a prime hitter's park.

The Rays' manager, Kevin Cash, is frustrating all of us with Kevin Kiermaier hitting in the bottom of the lineup. On occasion he will jump up, which makes him an even greater play. Kiermaier has shredded right-handed pitching in his career so far. He is continuing the trend here into 2015.
