Cash Game Locks: MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball

Cash games typically reward high floor rosters. You don't need to score 60 points on FanDuel or 160 on DraftKings to win money. Instead, you should aim for a nice base of around 40 and 120 points, respectively. Our MLB Cash Game Picks will highlight the top pick and a value pick at each position for both platforms.

Pitcher

Adam Wainwright is the lone ace in tonight's slate, and he has a solid price on both sites. Milwaukee has a beaten down lineup, due to injury, and are striking out at a 23% rate against right-handed pitching this season. Wainwright is not a huge strikeout guy, but the matchup tonight could give him a few more than usual. He has been dominant so far in 2015, allowing just four earned runs in three starts. Vegas have the Cardinals favored, and I love the chances of Wainwright dominating this lineup tonight for a win.

On DraftKings, Shelby Miller is a great option to plug into the second starting pitcher slot. He is only $7,300, and he faces one of the less threatening offenses in baseball. The Phillies have a 22% strikeout rate versus right-handed pitching, and only have a team wOBA of .246 to go with that. Two of his three starts have come against Miami, but the most impressive start was the one Miller made in the Rogers Centre against Toronto. He went six innings, allowing just two earned, and struck out six. He is not a guy who will light up your team with fantasy points, but a quality start and a win is likely tonight for Miller. I like him best at DraftKings tonight.

It has not been pretty, but Brandon McCarthy has found himself in the cash game section tonight. The Padres offense is improved, but they are still striking out at a 20% clip against right-handed pitching. McCarthy has dialed up the strikeouts this season, which has made up for the six home runs he has allowed. I love his price on FanDuel, and he gets a big boost pitching in Petco Park tonight. The Dodgers are slight favorites, and their offense faces Ian Kennedy, who is coming off of the DL.

Catcher

Buster Posey gets a lefty at Coors tonight, and there are really not a lot of options behind the dish in this slate. Jorge De La Rosa was horrendous in his first start of the season, and tonight he gets to take on a San Francisco lineup which is predominately left-handed. I don't believe it will be as bad. Posey has proven to be one of the best left-handed pitching hitters in baseball, and add Coors Field to the mix, you get a top play.

If you're looking to pay up elsewhere, A.J. Pierzynski has been swinging a hot bat this season. He is relatively cheap on both sites, and hits in a prime spot in the batting order. He has split time this season, but is hitting .444 with three home runs off right-handed pitching. His matchup versus David Buchanan tonight is well in Pierzynki's favor.

First Base

I am a big fan of Freddie Freeman tonight against Buchanan. Philly is a great place to hit for left-handed bats, and Freeman has shown some power early on this season. Buchanan has already stumbled out of the gates in 2015, allowing 14 earned runs in three starts. Even a lineup like Atlanta's should make a pitcher like this pay, especially Freeman. He has a great price tag on FanDuel tonight, on DraftKings not so much. I would much rather spend the extra $300 and get Paul Goldschmidt.

Justin Morneau has slipped under the DraftKings pricing radar tonight, only $3900 facing Tim Hudson. Left-handed bats got to Hudson in 2014, with a .331 wOBA, and he will face a ton of them tonight. Morneau had a .400 wOBA against right-handed pitching in 2014, and did not struggle away from Coors either. This game should be very high scoring, and his price makes it very easy to accommodate others while still getting exposure.

Second Base

There are a couple solid second base plays tonight, but Robinson Cano is the elite play. He faces an average right-handed pitcher in Trevor May, who has a very small sample size, but has struggled against left-handed bats in his career. Cano ranked fourth in average against right-handed pitching in 2014, and had a 151 wRC+.

The Pirates have some great cash game options tonight, and Neil Walker is one. The Pirates have an underrated lineup and have to play half their season in one of the toughest parks for hitters in baseball. It is nice when this team gets to move to a more offensive-friendly park, such as Chase Field. Rubby De La Rosa has allowed a career .360 wOBA to left-handed bats, and has already served up three long balls as well to lefties. Walker is one of the power second baseman in the league, and tonight is a great value play on FanDuel.

Shortstop

Shortstop is very similar to catcher tonight, and Troy Tulowitzki is the star. His price tag makes him a tough play, but still always an elite one at home. He is not a must play tonight, but is a manageable fit on FanDuel. I actually prefer Hanley Ramirez on DraftKings at shortstop for about a $1,000 less. He had the day off yesterday, and faces Hudson tonight, who has a 6.75 ERA in Coors over the last three seasons.

The only downside to Xander Bogaerts is that he hits eighth in the lineup, but the matchup is one to target. Wei-Yin Chen has allowed a career 1.30 HR/9 to right-handed bats alongside a .330 wOBA. Bogaerts has hit left-handed pitching exceptionally well so far in the majors, and is continuing the trend in 2015, hitting .364. This game is another high scoring game to target tonight.

Matt Carpenter is one of the hottest hitters in baseball right now, hitting .387 to start the year. He has 11 multi-hit games out of 14 games this season, and is tied for the lead in doubles with Tulowitzki. He draws a great matchup tonight against Wily Peralta, who allowed a .361 wOBA to left-handed bats. Peralta is showing and reverse trend there this season. The Cardinals lefties have a great matchup.

The Pirates tonight are all in great price ranges on FanDuel. They are appropriately priced based on the matchup on DraftKings. Josh Harrison is a solid value play at third base tonight in a projected high scoring game. De La Rosa struggles against right-handed bats as well, allowing a career .337 wOBA. I believe these two leadoff batters will find themselves with similar stats come the end of the night.
