The purpose of this column is to highlight some players with upside and well-suited for tournaments. While the majority of the hitter picks will likely have power upside, that's not necessarily the case for all the listed options. Other contextual factors such as batting order, ballpark, opposing pitcher, price, speed, etc also come into play, and you'll see these items sprinkled into the write-ups below. Along with that, we'll be gauging the ownership levels, giving you some plausible pivots from the popular choices in a given game slate.

Top GPP Pitcher

Amir Garrett (P), Reds

$7,700$6,700Brewers2.8331.3%46.95-119

I've been the one saying all along that I don't like picking on the Brewers offense, but since they've been so hot, I think this is the perfect time to attack them. Everyone is riding the Thames train, and Amir Garrett is the perfect pitcher to slow him down. Garrett gets a slight ball park bump going from Great American to Miller. He has yet to give up a hit on any of his off-speed pitches, and is a good candidate for cash games and GPP's at a relatively low price tag.

Nolan Arenado has been a regular on my GPP picks article. It's hard not to like one of the best hitters in baseball, in the best park in baseball. Jacob Turner has proven to be a reverse splits pitcher in his on-and-off career in the MLB, and that will play right into Arenado's strengths. He's pricy on both sites, but he has the potential to be the highest scoring player on this slate, and should have no problem paying off that salary.

Rougned Odor is a solid cash game option, but that doesn't mean we have to shy away in GPP's. Hughes has the tendency to get rocked by left-handed bats (0.412 wOBA, 34 percent hard-contact rate), and is a fly-ball pitcher, pitching in one of the most hitter-friendly parks in the league. Odor hits righties very well (0.350 wOBA, 0.251 ISO), and is in a prime position to have a big game. He is my HR pick of the night, and at $3,200 on FanDuel, you really can't go wrong.

$3,000$4,000Chacin-R0.30.1718525.75

I will stack against Chacin every chance I get, so why not include the #2 hitter in your GPP's. He went 4/5 the other night with four doubles, and just absolutely crushed his salary expectations. He gets a great match up against Chacin, who struggles against left-handed bats (0.373 wOBA, 35 percent hard contact rate), and should face a somewhat lefty-heavy lineup with Pollock and Goldy as the righties (scary). The Diamondbacks are my top stack tonight, so getting some relatively cheap exposure in Peralta is what I'm looking to do.

$2,600$3,200Kuhl-R0.2980.1629374.75

This is the ultimate GPP punt play. Nobody, and I mean nobody will go to Montero. Chad Kuhl gave up a 0.363 wOBA, and a 37 percent hard-contact rate to left-handed bats. With all of the catcher bats in good spots tonight (Chase, Coors, Arlington), and with all the possible punt catchers available, Montero batting 7th in a terrible park for hitters in PNC, will garner about 2 percent ownership in GPP's. Is it a stretch? Yeah, maybe a little. But you take these kind of chances in GPP's.
