The purpose of this column is to highlight some players with upside and well-suited for tournaments. While the majority of the hitter picks will likely have power upside, that's not necessarily the case for all the listed options. Other contextual factors such as batting order, ballpark, opposing pitcher, price, speed, etc also come into play, and you'll see these items sprinkled into the write-ups below. Along with that, we'll be gauging the ownership levels, giving you some plausible pivots from the popular choices in a given game slate.

Top GPP Pitcher

Jacob deGrom (R), Mets

So, going with a top arm really isn't in the GPP philosophy, but you have to look at the entire scenario for this play. First, you have Chris Sale as the top dog going against an Oakland team that can very much struggle against good starting pitching. With the dominance in strikeouts that Sale has had this entire season, many DFS'ers could gravitate towards him rather than deGrom. When you look at deGrom's body of work this year, it should be noted that he hasn't had a start where he hasn't given up a run since his first start of the year. Over his past seven starts, deGrom has an ERA of 4.64. The reason he's still priced up there though is that he has a strikeout rate of 32.4% compared to his career of 26.3%. Against this Angels team that is bottom-ten in the league for batting average when facing a righty, deGrom should be able to limit the amount of hits and runs. The Angels also rank 11th in most strikeouts against righties this year.

$4,100$5,300Lisalverto Bonilla - R.424.30314615

He's not the most productive hitter every night, but boy, Charlie Blackmon has become one of my favorite hitters in DFS. I'm a little sad Blackmon only has two stolen bases, but in time it will come. Blackmon has absolutely destroyed righty pitchers this year, including hitting seven of his nine home runs against right handers. At the same token Blackmon has only two home runs on the road with a .274 wOBA. Although his road numbers aren't the best, Blackmon still gets the luxury of hitting in Great American Ballpark here. And not to mention going up against Lisalverto Bonilla who struggled in his one start at home this year. He did go eight innings, giving up just three runs, but that was against the Giants, whose offense can sometimes go quiet. I look for Bonilla to struggle through five innings, like he did against the Cubs in his first home start. If that's the case, Blackmon could get three really good looks to do some damage against Bonilla.

$4,000$4,700Nick Martinez - R.709.80037035.25

I'm calling a Martinez on Martinez crime tonight. I'm just not sure which Martinez will be the victor. However, the one Martinez that is been out of this world good has been J.D. On the flip side, Nick Martinez has been his ho-hum self. Nick Martinez comes into this game with a 5.04 ERA, a 2.04 HR/9 to righties, and a 7.94 ERA in road games. He's basically been what you should expect Nick Martinez to be in 2017. We all know J.D. Martinez is a fantastic hitter and he's clearly proven that early on in this season. J.D. Martinez missed a month plus of play due to injuries but has been completely locked in from the get-go. In a total of six games, J.D. Martinez has gone yard five times and eight total hits. I can't even begin to talk about his numbers this year because they are just so skewed. In 2016 though, J.D. Martinez had a .236 ISO and a .390 wOBA against righties. Oddly enough, Nick Martinez has held J.D. Martinez hitless in his two at-bats, proving just why BvP is so wrong at times.

$2,900$3,600Daniel Norris - L.346.15911523.75

With a run total of 3.75, Vegas must think that Daniel Norris is the real deal. Sure, the ballpark is in Norris' favor, but this is still a potent Rangers offense. Near the beginning of that lineup should be Elvis Andrus. While he has okay numbers against lefties this year, Andrus is on a nice little run over his past five games. Andrus is hitting .381 in that span with six RBI's, four runs scored, and a stolen base. He does a lot of the little things right which makes him a viable DFS option on most slates. Norris is allowing a .399 wOBA to righties this year, while surrendering a 4.41 ERA at home. Over his past five starts, Norris has only completed six innings once. If that's the case tonight, Andrus could have multiple opportunities against a pretty weak Tigers bullpen.

$2,400$2,600Alex Wood - L.080.000-5963.25

Oh boy, these are my favorite guys to write up! Not to be confused with Mary Tyler Moore (RIP), Tyler Moore has only seen 21 at-bats this year and only 11 against southpaws. His splits this year look atrocious but it's extremely small sample size. For his career, Moore has an ISO of .172 against lefties. It's still not great, but the 30-year old has never really seen significant consistent time in the bigs. Alex Wood is a notorious groundball pitcher who has an insane 12.11 K/9 compared to a career K/9 of 8.41. He's pitching way over his head right now, as his ERA is a full run lower than his career. Don't get me wrong, Wood is on a nice run, but at any moment, he could revert to his old self. Against a somewhat powerful hitting right handed Marlins team. Make sure Moore is in the lineup though, as the Marlins faced a lefty yesterday and Justin Bour still played. To make matters worse, Bour even took the lefty deep last night. Just keep an eye on Moore's status!
