MLB Mobile Sports Betting Toolkit
The purpose of this column is to highlight some players with upside and well-suited for tournaments. While the majority of the hitter picks will likely have power upside, that's not necessarily the case for all the listed options. Other contextual factors such as batting order, ballpark, opposing pitcher, price, speed, etc also come into play, and you'll see these items sprinkled into the write-ups below. Along with that, we'll be gauging the ownership levels, giving you some plausible pivots from the popular choices in a given game slate.
NOTE: Really monitor the weather reports today, utilize Twitter if needed as there are some trouble spots this evening already.
This slate looks pretty ugly, so I am playing light, and think you should too.
Top GPP Pitcher
Alex Meyer (RHP), Los Angeles Angels
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp | FIP | K% | GB% | Opp Run Total | Moneyline |
$6,000 | $5,300 | @SE | 3.78 | 20.8 | 70 | 5 | 124 |
I know. I know. This is crazy. I am not going to lie, this is the definition of GPP Dart here. Meyers has strikeout potential and can bring some serious heat. Control issues have always been a concern, but when you look at tonight's options (*Starts gagging*) you may as well take a ride on the wild side that is Alex Meyer.
The hope is he is pitches deep enough into the game, gets some run support and the fact the Mariners bats haven't seen him yet can work in his favor. The potential is here and options are limited so if you play any contests tonight I am riding Meyer, take a ride with me!
Pay up for the big bats.
Top GPP Hitters
Mike Trout (OF), Los Angeles Angels
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs LHP | ISO vs LHP | wRC+ vs LHP | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$5,100 | $5,400 | Miranda- LHP | 0.433 | 0.215 | 181 | 3 | 3.5 |
Trout is the best player in the game, and you can likely afford to load up on bats tonight. Even though it will be a night where money can be left on the table pitching options allow for you to snag a few big boppers tonight. You can't beat a 0.433 wOBA on any night, and to say Miranda may be overpowered by Trout tonight is an understatement.
Giancarlo Stanton (OF), Miami Marlins
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP | ISO vs RHP | wRC+ vs RHP | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$3,800 | $4,600 | M. Andriese- RHP | 0.327 | 0.232 | 98 | 4 | 3.25 |
Stanton makes for a nice GPP Play every night with his massive power upside. Tonight his matchup is as good as it gets. With a lighter slate, shaky weather and plenty of top tier outfielders available Stanton's ownership may be a little lower than normal. A 0.327 wOBA against pitcher like Andriese is drool worthy enough for me to pair alongside Trout.
Albert Pujols (1B), Los Angeles Angels
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs LHP | ISO vs LHP | wRC+ vs LHP | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$2,800 | $4,100 | Miranda-LHP | 0.336 | 0.218 | 0 | 4 | 3.5 |
Pujols has been productive this season, and although his power isn't what it used to be he can certainly get after Miranda tonight and should have some runners on base to get some RBI either way. His wOBA is above average against lefties. Pujols has been averaging 12.1 FanDuel points over his last 6 and has produced some points in every game.
Curtis Granderson (OF), New York Mets
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs LHP | ISO vs LHP | wRC+ vs LHP | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$2,200 | $3,300 | Garcia- LHP | 0.317 | 0.199 | 18 | 5 | 3.5 |
Grandy is dirt cheap on FanDuel especially tonight, and tends to fare much better against lefties similair to Jaime Garcia. You should have plenty of budget left over if you opt for my pitcher choice and Granderson may not even be needed. However, in GPP's he has enough upside to exceed value and can allow you to spend up on some infield bats as well.
Good Luck everyone!
