MLB GPP Tournament Picks: 6-12-17

The purpose of this column is to highlight some players with upside and well-suited for tournaments. While the majority of the hitter picks will likely have power upside, that's not necessarily the case for all the listed options. Other contextual factors such as batting order, ballpark, opposing pitcher, price, speed, etc also come into play, and you'll see these items sprinkled into the write-ups below. Along with that, we'll be gauging the ownership levels, giving you some plausible pivots from the popular choices in a given game slate.

Top GPP Pitcher

Recent performances will have people off of Jacob deGrom. This is a great spot to attack the Cubs here. They strike out a ton, and deGrom's 15 earned runs over his last two starts will have people saying no. Strasburg should be very popular, and for good reason. His advanced stats are insane, and he will garner tons of ownership. I want to pivot to deGrom in GPP's, given his similar upside at a lower price tag.

Top GPP Hitters

This is going to be short and sweet. Gallardo's wOBA against righties is over 0.400. His hard-contact against righties is through the roof, and he has a tendency to walk a lot of batters. Sano and Dozier are my two favorite from this team, but I love the stack. Sano is my call for a HR tonight. He's in play for me in cash games and GPP's.

NARRATIVE STREET. It's Avisail Garcia's birthday today, and he's facing a lefty. Wade Miley is due for a good game, but I don't think it affects Garcia. Garcia has been mashing left-handed pitching this year, to a tune of a 0.475 wOBA. I think he is in play in all formats tonight, but I really like him in GPPs. The White Sox stack is in play, depending on their lineup, but regardless I really like Garcia tonight.

Andrew Benintendi is in a great spot tonight, but his price tag varies significantly on the two major sites. He is a plug-and-play for me on FanDuel, but he's going to be hard to fit in on DraftKings at $5,100. Eickhoff has been bad against lefties this year, and Benintendi profiles well tonight, especially with that short porch in Boston. Most of my exposure will be on FD, but his ownership on DK should be very low, which is always something I look for in GPP's.

Jose Pirela has been hot ever since being called up. He should be leading off here, and Arroyo has been terrible this season. He comes at an extreme price cut tonight, and allows you to do so much with your pitchers and bats tonight. Arroyo hasn't been terrible against righties, but I really can't get away from this price.
