MLB GPP Tournament Picks: 7-29-17

The purpose of this column is to highlight some players with upside and well-suited for tournaments. While the majority of the hitter picks will likely have power upside, that's not necessarily the case for all the listed options. Other contextual factors such as batting order, ballpark, opposing pitcher, price, speed, etc also come into play, and you'll see these items sprinkled into the write-ups below. Along with that, we'll be gauging the ownership levels, giving you some plausible pivots from the popular choices in a given game slate.

Top GPP Pitcher

With all of the top offenses on the slate tonight, it's going to be hard to fit Corey Kluber into your lineups. Here's why you should have him tonight. The White Sox are considerably weaker with all of their departures, and with Avisail Garcia being placed on the DL. Kluber has been lights out lately, and I don't see that stopping here. He's my top pitcher, and may get lower ownership because of his ridiculous price tag.

Top GPP Hitters

It's easy for me here tonight. The Cubs are my #1 offense on this slate, and I don't think its close. Junior Guerra has been terrible as of late, and the numbers don't show it getting any easier for him. I love all of the Cubs here tonight. I want to fit the Cubs and Kluber tonight, so I'm going to have to figure that out, but those two are the top if you can do it. Rizzo has been hot, and should continue that tonight against a weak pitcher. #1 1B option on this slate, and a lock for cash and GPP in my opinion. You just have to click the button.

I love Daniel Murphy here tonight. I think the Nationals have a great chance to be a Top-2 stack on this slate. Marquez is terrible against opposing left-handers. Murphy wasn't able to get into the HR action the other night, but I like for him to get right back on track here tonight. Murphy is a cash game play as well as a GPP play on this slate, and I think he's the top 2B on the slate tonight.

This is my super contrarian play of the night. Bonifacio has tons of power, and he's in a great match up tonight against Eduardo Rodriguez. With all of the games that are being played tonight, he will fly way under the radar here. He is my off the board HR call of the night. I really like his chances of blasting one over the Green Monster. GPP play only even tho I have a gut feeling he's going off tonight.

We have to have some kind of value tonight right? Healy is a lefty-masher, and should perform well in this match up. The Athletics are my contrarian stack of the night. Mejia struggles against opposing righties, and the Athletics have plenty of them. If you want a cheap stack to pair with Kluber, this is the one, and it all works around Healy. Cash game and GPP playable due to his price.
