MLB GPP Tournament Picks: 7-8-17

The purpose of this column is to highlight some players with upside and well-suited for tournaments. While the majority of the hitter picks will likely have power upside, that's not necessarily the case for all the listed options. Other contextual factors such as batting order, ballpark, opposing pitcher, price, speed, etc also come into play, and you'll see these items sprinkled into the write-ups below. Along with that, we'll be gauging the ownership levels, giving you some plausible pivots from the popular choices in a given game slate.

Top GPP Pitcher

I'm going to come out and label this just as a DraftKings play only. He's a little too expensive for my liking on FanDuel, and will suit better point wise on DraftKings. There's uncertainty how long he'll pitch, but thats exactly why he's an interesting play, and worth a shot in GPP's on this ugly pitching slate. He's a GPP play only for me(and he's very risky), but he's a salary-saver and there's an argument that he could be your SP2 in cash games tonight with all the high priced bats to like here. Some concerns here all around, but if that's not a GPP play I don't know what is

Top GPP Hitters

Wow do I really love Corey Seager here. Lefties are going to explode in this match up tonight. A 7:15 start time on this slate (4:15 in LA) means that the temperature will be hot, and this ball should be flying out. These Dodgers are expensive, but that puts them in a good spot to go overlooked tonight. I really love locking up the weaker positions(SS and 2B) on a nightly basis with stud bats, and that's exactly what I'm going to do here.

As you can see, the Dodgers are the popular team here. A fly-ball pitcher going against this lineup is never a good thing, and as noted with the weather, these bats make for a great stack tonight. I really like Bellinger to go yard here, and he's me HR pick of the night. Love love love the Dodger bats here. I'd stack up the lefty power, but Justin Turner has some good BvP here.

Shin-soo Choo is in a great spot here on this slate. On FanDuel, his price is laughable, and on DraftKings, people won't even consider him given Coors bats, and other good spots(Dodgers) on this slate. He should leadoff here against Chavez, who has been struggling as of late. This is a great ball park to score runs, and I like the Rangers a lot here tonight.

It's hard to tell how Kevin Smith will do in his debut tonight, but what I do know is that Kyle Seager is too cheap tonight(really FanDuel?). Kyle Seager has been hitting better as of late, and his price hasn't caught up to his results at this dish. The Mariners have one of the higher totals outside of Coors tonight, and Smith shouldn't last too long. On FanDuel, he's cash eligible as well tonight, but just a GPP play for me on DraftKings.
