The purpose of this column is to highlight some players with upside and well-suited for tournaments. While the majority of the hitter picks will likely have power upside, that's not necessarily the case for all the listed options. Other contextual factors such as batting order, ballpark, opposing pitcher, price, speed, etc also come into play, and you'll see these items sprinkled into the write-ups below. Along with that, we'll be gauging the ownership levels, giving you some plausible pivots from the popular choices in a given game slate.
Top GPP Pitcher
Jose Berrios (P), Twins
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp | FIP | K% | GB% | Opp Run Total | Moneyline |
$9,000 | $10,100 | White Sox | 4.34 | 21.3% | 39.4% | 4 | -230 |
Jose Berrios is my favorite pitcher on this slate. He's reasonably priced, and the best option in the top tier. The White Sox have traded away most of their team this season, and their hitting has suffered because of it. The Twins are currently the second Wild Card in the AL, and are fighting for their playoff lives. With the Twins projected to score a lot of runs, I expect Berrios to get the win here easily.
Top GPP Hitters
Brian Dozier (2B), Twins
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs LHP | ISO vs LHP | wRC+ vs LHP | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$4,200 | $5,000 | Holland-L | 0.379 | 0.234 | 170 | 1 | 5.5 |
The Twins are the top stack for me tonight, and it's not really close. Derek Holland has been terrible this year, and gets pounded by opposing right-handed hitters. As i said with Berrios, the Twins need every game they can get to hold on to their Wild Card lead. Dozier is one of the best hitters on this slate, and even though he is expensive, he's worth it to have exposure to him in cash games and GPP's tonight.
Adam Duvall (OF), Reds | |||||||
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP | ISO vs RHP | wRC+ vs RHP | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$3,300 | $4,300 | Montero-R | 0.333 | 0.238 | 97 | 4 |
|
I really like Adam Duvall here tonight. Rafael Montero is very overrated, and is known for giving up home runs. Duvall had a home run last night, and I'm looking for him to go yard here tonight. The Reds are one of the top stacks of the night tonight. Duvall is in play for me in GPP's at his price, but I'm not considering him in cash on this slate.
Mike Moustakas (3B), Royals
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP | ISO vs RHP | wRC+ vs RHP | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$3,200 | $3,800 | Odorizzi-R | 0.363 | 0.289 | 138 | 6 | 5.25 |
After not scoring a run for what seemed like forever, the Royals finally cracked the scoreboard last night against the Rays. Odorizzi hasn't enjoyed a great season, and I like the Royals offense a lot here tonight. Mike Moustakas has seen a price cut because of his recent play, but I like him here tonight in this matchup. They are one of the top offenses of the night, and I like Moustakas in cash games and GPP's on this slate.
Brian McCann (C), Astros
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP | ISO vs RHP | wRC+ vs RHP | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$2,700 | $3,600 | Cashner-R | .302 | .158 | 89 | 6 | 5 |
McCann finally came back last week after being on the DL for a while. Andrew Cashner has been due for a blowup game, and the Astros are the perfect team to do it. This game will be in Tampa, due to Hurricane Harvey. McCann is still relatively inexpensive, because he hasn't been back for too long, and i want to take advantage of him at this price (especially on FanDuel). GPP only play for me tonight.
