Pitching is the lifeblood of a DFS lineup, and an important part of keeping those tabs open deep into the night. For those new with us, the Pitching Pulse is focused on providing information on four to five pitchers that are viable in various formats. This is a premium article that will give away one free preview pitcher, while the rest will be for premium members. We take a deep dive into pitchers across all salaries, looking for exploitable matchups, game theory plays, and identify the nightly chalk. Our information comes from our optimizer, FanGraphs, and other various MLB sites listed below. Feel free to comment below, or find us on Twitter at @BrentHeiden1, @JGuilbault11, and @dfcafe. We focus on Main Slates across all content, but will feature blurbs about other slates at times, and can be reached via Twitter or comments.

Coming off his worst outing in some time, this is a high upside bounce back spot for Max Scherzer. As like any other start, the only downside that comes with him is the hefty price tag. With a 38.2% strikeout rate and the consistency he has shown this season it is easy to understand why. Scherzer will get a balanced lineup tonight, as it won't be as right-handed heavy prior times. The lefties have a .271 wOBA and .124 ISO in the projected lineup against right-handers. Chris Davis has a .047 ISO against right-handers this season and a 35% strikeout rate. Chance Sisco is the other lefty with a 36% strikeout rate, while Pedro Alverez and Jace Peterson sit at 24%. While Scherzer has shown some home run tendencies to left-handers, this group isn't striking fear into anyone. Schzerzer has upped his strikeout stuff to lefties, sitting at 34% this season. Scherzer has a whiff rate of 53% on his slider, and his fastballs have over a 30% whiff rate. He will mix in a changeup, cutter, and curveball which all have been excellent this season.
