Winners From Downtown is bringing the top daily picks for your cash games, alongside some value plays, and Vegas notes. Be sure to check out our minutes tool, and Colossus lineup optimizer. These players will be the best-bets relative to their pricing, and if a player makes for a better play on DK than on FD, or vice versa, it'll be indicated in the notes. We have a 7-game slate tonight, and plenty of options to work with at some generally thin positions.
Projections show DraftKings prices and fantasy points.
Vegas Notes
- There are 3 other games with totals of 200 or more points, including Grizzlies-Warriors (200.5, -8.5), Trailblazers-Timberwolves (202, -5.5), and Spurs-Knicks (202.5, +7.5).
-The Cavaliers-76ers game has the lowest total on the board at 194, with the Cavs listed as 13 point favorites. If there's one game I'm hesitant on in cash games due to a blowout, this is the one.
Top Picks
Russell Westbrook (PG), Thunder
Opponent | Minutes | Fantasy Points Per Minute | Defensive Efficiency Rating | Usage Rate | Opposing Fantasy Points Allowed | Vegas Team Total | Projection |
at HOU | 36 | 1.59 | 18.6 | 36.2 | 43 | 109 | 54 |
Salary: FD: $11200 DK: $10300
Westbrook has picked up right where he left off last season, posting a monstrous 36.2% usage rate thus far in 2015-16. He is averaging a ridiculous 1.59 FPPM, and should see a full compliment of minutes tonight after playing just 25 minutes (and nearly posting a triple double with 15/9/8) in a blowout win over Denver last night. With Stephen Curry in a tough matchup against Memphis, who plays down in pace, Westy makes sense as the top PG play with the closer spread and higher total as well.
Giannis Antetokounmpo (SG/SF), Bucks
Opponent | Minutes | Fantasy Points Per Minute | Defensive Efficiency Rating | Usage Rate | Opposing Fantasy Points Allowed | Vegas Team Total | Projection |
at BKN | 35 | 1.22 | 20.1 | 25.5 | 36.66 | 97.75 | 38 |
Salary: FD: $6300 DK: $6400
One of the most versatile players in the NBA, the "Greek Freak" has been playing phenomenal ball through his first two games this season. Last night against Toronto, he had 20 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and a block in 34 mintues...with ZERO turnovers. The upside is immense with him, and he can contribute in all categories. He makes for one of the best values on the board at his current price tag
Blake Griffin (PF), Clippers
Opponent | Minutes | Fantasy Points Per Minute | Defensive Efficiency Rating | Usage Rate | Opposing Fantasy Points Allowed | Vegas Team Total | Projection |
vs PHO | 34 | 1.52 | 19.7 | 34.1 | 42.2 | 109.75 | 45 |
Salary: FD: $10300 DK: $9800
Speaking of players who have burst out of the gate this season, Griffin is barely behind Westbrook in FPPM thus far in 2015-16. Tonight's up-tempo matchup against the Suns will suit him well, as both teams are currently in the top 10 in the NBA in pace in the early going. He'll cost you a pretty penny, but for cash games, you can rely on his floor being around 35 points and upside of 60. There is a slight concern for a blowout in this one, but if that's the case, you can rest assured that Griffin had plenty to do with the blowout. He is also dominating the usage for the Clippers, with 34.1% this season compared to just 21.5 for teammate Chris Paul.
CJ McCollum (PG/SG), Blazers
Opponent | Minutes | Fantasy Points Per Minute | Defensive Efficiency Rating | Usage Rate | Opposing Fantasy Points Allowed | Vegas Team Total | Projection |
at MIN | 34 | 1.05 | 20 | 26.7 | 43.95 | 98.25 | 30 |
Salary: FD (SG): $6400 DK: (PG) $6700
I prefer McCollum on FD, since he can be utilized at the SG position, but you can also utilize the versatility of DK's rosters and slot him in at the "Guard" spot over there. After a breakout performance in the opener, McCollum has slowed down, but showed great consistency and played big minutes. He has at least 29 DK points in each game, and we all saw what type of upside he possesses when his shot is falling. He is averaging nearly 20 FGA (7.3 from downtown) per game, which is great for both his floor and ceiling.
Karl Anthony-Towns (C), Wolves
Opponent | Minutes | Fantasy Points Per Minute | Defensive Efficiency Rating | Usage Rate | Opposing Fantasy Points Allowed | Vegas Team Total | Projection |
vs. POR | 34 | 1.35 | 20 | 26.5 | 43.91 | 103.75 | 37 |
Salary: FD: $6600 DK: $6100
Our very-early candidate for Rookie of the Year, "KAT" has been incredible through his first two NBA contests, averaging 21/13 in 32.5 MPG against the Lakers and Nuggets. Granted, those matchups were ideal for the young fella, but tonight he faces another team that struggles to control rebounds. Portland ranks 15th in the NBA with a -1.3 rebound differential. Minnesota has been awful as a team on the glass, with a -7 rebounding differential, but KAT's numbers have been impressive. At his current price, I'm locking him in at the C position.
Value Plays
Al-Farouq Aminu (SF - POR) FD: $5,700 DK: $4,800
Aminu has been the model of consistency in the early-going, averaging just under 30 DK points per contest, while playing 31+ minutes in all three contests. He doesn't have an enormous ceiling, but he makes for a great cash game play. He has scored 16 real points each of the last two games, and hauled in 7 rebounds or more in all three.
Manu Ginobili (SG - SA) FD: $4,400 DK: $4,200
In just under 22 MPG, Ginobili is averaging nearly 29 DK points per contest. While he will never see big minutes, he is the focal point of the offense off the bench, as evidenced by his 24.7% usage rate off the bench. Temper your expectations here, but he gives you a decent floor for cheap on a short slate.
Jarrett Jack (PG - BKN) FD: $6,300 DK: $6,000
Jack is the only reliable option at the point for the Nets, as Shane Larkin has repeatedly shown his inability to be a factor on the offensive end. In 62 minutes against the Spurs and Grizzlies, Jack has totaled 63.25 DK points. If you aren't paying up at PG, Jack is a fine value.
Marcus Thornton (SG - HOU) FD: $3,700 DK: $3,000
As of early this morning, there was no update to the status of Terrence Jones (eye). If Thornton draws the start once again, he makes for a great value play at near minimum on FD and absolute minimum on DK in an up-tempo game against the Thunder. However, he's little more than a cheap filler play to close out your roster.
