Correlations are very relevant in NFL DFS, as we like to pair up quarterbacks with their top receiving options. While the running back and defense stack is not as high of an upside stack as using a passing game, it is still viable with the right plays around it and still brings a small correlation of upside. Game stacks can often be overlooked, but why wouldn't you want exposure to the team trying to keep up or chasing your favorite passing offense? There are ways to be contrarian by still targeting a top offense projected with higher ownership. Shifting from the popular WR1 to a WR2, TE, or even RB is going to help you get exposure at slightly less ownership. WR1, RB1, WR2, and TE1, in that order, stand the highest chances of generating the most fantasy points in a stack. This is at least for two person stacks. We will dive into more multiplayer stacks below. Volume, Vegas, opposing defensive stats, pace, and pricing are all calculated into my stacks below. You will find my top, value, contrarian, and game stacks within the article. You can find me on Twitter at @JGuilbault11 to help with the week's slate or questions/comments about the article.
Note: Despite it being Week 17 and a few teams resting their starters, there are quite a few stacks to consider. Tennessee is the obvious choice this week against the Texans, as Tannehill, Henry, Davis, and Brown are all worthy of stacking. The Colts have a 31 implied total and are also a solid option, as is the Ravens, with a four-touchdown total.
Houston Texans
Player | Position | FanDuel Price | DraftKings Price |
Deshaun Watson | QB | $8,700 | $7,700 |
Brandin Cooks | WR | $7,300 | $6,900 |
Keke Coutee | WR | $5,700 | $5,600 |
Houston has a 24.5 implied total this week against the Titans. They have nothing to play for, not even a chance to improve their pick because they don't own them. Houston should be out there trying to ruin the Titans season at the least. All that aside, Watson has averaged over 25 fantasy points per game over the last seven and faces a Titans defense that has allowed 2.2 passing touchdowns per game and 271 yards per game. Watson should have another field day against this secondary as most offenses have crushed the Titans on the year. This game is stackable on both sides and a full-on game stack is worth a go. Brandin Cooks and Keke Coutee have picked up the slack with Will Fuller suspended over the last few games and while they are more expensive than the last few weeks, we can give them a go. Tennessee has allowed the second-most fantasy points to wide receivers this season.
Minnesota Vikings
Player | Position | FanDuel Price | DraftKings Price |
Kirk Cousins | QB | $7,700 | $6,300 |
Justin Jefferson | WR | $8,000 | $7,600 |
Adam Thielen | WR | $7,900 | $7,400 |
The Minnesota passing game has been excellent of late, and Kirk Cousins has been quietly playing very well in the second half of the season. Over the last seven games, he has averaged 23.4 fantasy points per game. The Vikings will be without Dalvin Cook this week and while they will still use Alexander Mattison a bit, I like them to lean on the pass, especially getting Justin Jefferson to that rookie record. Detroit has given up on the season as you saw last week and I wouldn't be surprised to see them give up another 40+ points. Detroit ranks bottom-five against the pass and has allowed 22.8 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks this season. Both Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen have been crushing of late, averaging over 15 fantasy points per game in the last seven. Detroit has allowed 204 yards to receivers per game and 1.2 touchdowns.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Player | Position | FanDuel Price | DraftKings Price |
Tom Brady | QB | $8,400 | $7,200 |
Mike Evans | WR | $8,100 | $7,500 |
Rob Gronkowski | TE | $6,100 | $4,500 |
Tampa is another strong stack this week but also comes with the frustration of nailing the correct players. They have a four-touchdown implied total and get a Falcons defense that has played better in the second half but still a pedestrian secondary to target. Mike Evans has been on fire and projects very well against this Falcons unit. He has averaged 19 fantasy points over his last seven games. Chris Godwin has averaged 13.6 and if you want to go cheaper, Antonio Brown is in the mix as well, but averaging 11.4 fantasy points. Rob Gronkowski is coming off a big game and the Falcons have struggled against tight ends this season. I don't mind going this route, especially on DK for the $4,500 price tag. Tom Brady has been solid against weaker defenses this season and that is the case here. Atlanta has allowed 287 passing yards per game and two passing touchdowns.
