The tight end position in DFS CFB on FanDuel is one of the hardest to navigate. The question to pay up or punt is one you have to face on a weekly basis. I personally prefer to punt. In this forum I will be giving you my top 3 tight ends under $3000 on FanDuel.

Before we jump into my top three punts I wanted to put in perspective why I chose to punt the TE position in college. In week 1 only 2 players that are listed as tight end had more than 5 catches. Those players went Jake Butt of Michigan and David Morgan the 2nd of Texas-San Antonio. The next closest tight ends had 5. Compare that to the wide receivers who had 21 players catch 8 or more passes and 41 players catch between 6 and 7 passes. Receiving yards is another telling stat as only 6 players went for 75 yards or more with 3 of those players getting their yardage with the help of big gains. Touchdowns are where tight ends and their big bodies shine but as with any position are hard to predict.

Based on those indicators when looking for a punt I look for several things. The first is number of games with at least one reception. I look at this year and last years stats. I want to get out cheaply but do not want to put up a zero if at possible. Second thing I look at is the ability to hit pay dirt. I try to look for big bodies that can be red zone targets. While this is much harder to predict, getting a player who finds pay dirt to one who doesn't can be the difference between a top 10 GPP finish and a minimum cash.

1. Deon Watson Idaho- Watson is not listed as the starter but is by far the best tight end on Idaho. He had a great camp and started off the season strong. In the first week against Ohio he went for 5/48/1. He was consistent last year as well catching a pass in every game. The competition does get stiffer this week in USC.

2. Gus Walley Mississippi State- Walley's production is tied completely to his ability to find pay dirt. He is a huge red zone target with his 6'4" 240lb frame. He went for 3/20/1 against Southern Miss but gets much tougher task vs LSU this week. At the site minimum he is a true boom or bust player.

3. Hunter Henry Arkanasas- Henry is a terrific athlete who was a highly regarded recruit. He is had a huge year last and scored over 4 points in all but 1 game. He gets Toledo this weekend and should easily see 5 plus targets this week.

What are your top punts this week or do you prefer to pay up for the sure thing?

If I'm not paying up for Jake Butt in the FanDuel early slate, Cam Serigne of Wake is my minimum salary pick. He's actually pretty involved in WF's offense, so it's a mystery as to why he's minimum salary. A lot of it will depend on lineup configuration, seeing if the extra $1700 in savings can result in a major upgrade.

A few questions for our CFB experts:

1. Do you ever take 1st year TE's?

2. How do you evaluate a Freshman TE with no college stats?

3. Are there any vegas prop best covering TE's in college? Any help at all from vegas in this category?

I personally will play a first year TE in the right situation. I evaluate freshman TE like any other position. I look at where they were in the national rankings, how they performed in spring camp and how the player they are taking over for performed in the same system. As far as Vegas is concerned I am not sure if there are any props covering TEs.
