Shell Houston Open Preview
We are so close to the best golf week of the year at Augusta, but there is still a pretty intriguing tournament this weekend in Houston to tend to first. The Golf Club of Houston, in Humble, Texas to be precise, is the host venue. The par 72 track measures 7,411 yards and has historically favored the bombers, so a lot of my plays this week are guys who can bomb it, scramble well, and make rack up the birdies. Defending champion JB Holmes is in the field, after he took out Jordan Spieth and Johnson Wagner in a playoff which he shot a final round 64 just to get into.....
Key Stats for GC of Houston
As I mentioned above, this is a bombers track that has consistently rewarded length off the tee over the years. Driving distance ( DD) is the first key stat, as three of the last five winners have also finished their respective season inside the top 50 in DD. Last years winner JB Holmes has averaged 317.4 yards off the tee in his six appearances here (via Fantasy Golf Metrics), good for 4th best all time at GC of Houston......
