Valero Texas Open Preview

San Antonio, Texas is the host for the Valero Texas Open, this weeks stop on the PGA Tour. Specifically, the par 72 TPC San Antonio Oaks Course is the site, measuring in at 7,435 yards. This tournament gained some fame last year for the ridiculous first round conditions where the morning tee time group got slammed by the wind and essentially had no chance to win the tournament after. Jimmy Walker was the eventual champion, to no ones surprise when you look at his track record in the state of Texas. The field is stronger this week than last, with nine of the top thirty in the official world golf rankings teeing it up. Charley Hoffman didn't make the list of picks this week due to his price tag, but he is the horse for the course this week with 11 straight made cuts and nine top 15 finishes. There is a strong Texas connection this week with many players in the field who attended college within the state. Jimmy Walker, Bryson DeChambeau, Ryan Palmer, and Jhonny Vegas all honed their craft at a young age at various colleges throughout the state. Make sure to check in on the weather tonight to see if their are any advantages at targeting specific tee times.
