The Players Championship Preview
One of the best golf viewing weekends of the year is upon us yet again for the The Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The Stadium Course is the setting for some of the most pressure packed golf shots you will see all year. It also has the biggest purse of the year, with the winner walking home with a whopping $1,890,000. The par 72 Pete Dye design layout measures 7,215 yards, and definitely rewards precision off the tee over length. The course is best known for the island green hole on #17, which is weird for a par 3 measuring under 150 yards, but this is no easy pitching wedge. The 17th at the Stadium Course led the entire tour in double bogeys or worse made last year with 32. There have only been 6 in competition aces, with Miguel Angel Jiminez the last in 2002.
