The Wells Fargo Championship Preview
The spacious Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, NC is the host this week for the Wells Fargo Championship. The par 72 layout is a long one at 7,575 yards, which will really cater to the bombers. It's been raining all week as well, so the soft condition will even further help players who hit the ball long and high. Rory McIlroy is the defending champion and perennial favorite, as he destroyed multiple records last year. He bested his own course record by shooting a third round 61, and shattered both the 54 hole and 72 hole scoring records. He carded all four rounds under par, en route to a resounding seven stroke win. He's the betting favorite, but there are some serious contenders in the field as well. 17 of the top 30 in the Fed Ex Cup rankings are in attendance, including leader Adam Scott. Including Rory, there are nine former champions in the field including Rickie Fowler and Jim Furyk. Furyk is making his return to competitive golf after wrist surgery in February. He has good course history here, so I would stay away this week unless you want to take a chance in a GPP.
