Recap

It was another week where we had a golfer blitzing the field. Unfortunately, Michael Kim's form coming in was not that good and with that, came with a very low ownership. So much so, you didn't need him to finish inside the top 20 in the big $5 GPP. That's Golf!

For me, it was an ok week on Draftkings. I made 10 lineups in the $5 and had somewhat of a spread-out ownership in my player pool. With a weak, anything can happen, and I didn't want to screw myself over if I had someone more than 50% and that golfer misses the cut by 1. I'm going to use the same strategy for The Open. Here are my exposures and my best lineup.

As you can see, I've basically used the lineup generator this week. I do sometimes make my own lineups, however, with a major coming up, I wanted to use the generator to my advantage for balancing my exposures. For the best lineup, it was a good lineup overall, this one just got screwed on Sunday because Hadley was a MDF by 1 stroke after making a double bogey on the last hole. Congrats to Mr. Kim for his first win on tour!

This Week

We are headed to Carnoustie this week and this year; the course is dry and will be playing fast. It's a Par 71; 7,361 yards course and being on the coast, the winds will be a little unpredictable. Speaking of winds, this is the tournament where 2 years ago, you had to stack a particular wave to win all the money and ever since then, stacking tee times became a popular topic every week. For this week, I'm looking at guys who can stay consistent tee to green and who can scramble. The main stats I'm putting in the model are B.O.B.%; SG: Tee to Green; SG: Approach the Green; SG: Par 4 scoring; SG: Around the Green; and Scrambling.

Cash Plays

Paul Casey ($8,700) – Casey is still playing well despite winning earlier at the Valspar. He has 2 top 5s in his last 3 starts on the PGA tour. For stats, he's 3rd in the field for SG: Par 4 scoring; 7th in Scrambling; and 17th in the field for SG: Approach the Green. With having a decent history at The Open, including an 11th place finish last year, he should be a lock in all formats this week.

Hideki Matsuyama ($8,500) – Matsu is playing better has of late since recovering his wrist injury. He has 3 top 20s in his last 3 starts on the tour. He also has 3 top 20s in The Open in his last 5 starts. For stats, he's 3rd in the field for SG: Par 4 scoring; 19th in the field for SG: Around the Green; and he's 31st in the field for SG: Tee to Green. If the winds are down this week, Matsu might be a sneaky top 10 here with his ball striking.

Zach Johnson ($7,200) – This is value at it's finest! You have a guy at $7,200 where he has a win and 3 top 15 finishes in his last 5 starts. He loves playing The Open and every time when he's on, it's hard to fade at places where he loves to play. For stats, he's 5th in the field for Scrambling; 6th in the field for SG: Par 4 scoring; and 35th in the field for SG: Tee to Green. With having finish another top 20 finish at the John Deere and having 2 previous top 20s before that, he should be very popular this week, so he's going to be one of my core players.

GPP Plays

Ian Poulter ($7,800) – It seems as though ever since he found out he had enough FedEx points last year at The Players, he's been playing very well. He won at The Shell Houston Open, and he has 3 top 25 finishes, including at The U.S. Open and The Players. For stats, he's 2nd in the field for Scrambling; 11th in B.O.B.%; and 19th in the field for SG: Tee to Green. With a 14th place finish at The Open last year and playing with more confidence after his win, he's going to be my dark horse this week.

Russell Henley ($6,900) – Henley is almost like Z.J., just doesn't have the tournament history. However, with his recent play, finishing 3 top 25s in his last 3 and having finish in the top 25 in The U.S. Open and The Masters. For stats, he's 13th in the field for SG: Tee to Green; 16th in the field for SG: Approach the Green and 17th in the field for Scrambling.

Exposure

Cash Games: For cash games, I like to play the small field 50/50s, for example, anything less than 100 entrants. I tend to make just 1 lineup and that lineup will have the 6 golfers who I think will have the best chance of making it to the weekend and have the upside of a top 10 finish.

3 Entry Max GPPs: For these tournaments, think of it as one lineup for cash, one for leagues and one that is completely different than the first 2. This technique is very common among the DFS community and even the DFS pros. Just start of with your cash lineup then use a “2 vs. 2" strategy for the other lineups.

20 – 150 Max GPPs: With these, you can have a player pool anywhere from 15-100 players. For 20 max GPPS, I tend to stay closer to 15-18 golfers in my pool. For 150 max GPPs, I recommend using around 25-30 golfers.

Weather

As of Monday evening, it will be ideal weather conditions for Thursday. In the morning, you'll have sunny skies with winds around 7 mph gusting up to 11 mph. In the afternoon, you have winds at roughly 12 mph with gusts up to 17 mph. For Friday, it will be interesting. In the morning, you have an 80% chance of rain with winds around 14 mph with gusts up to 22 mph. In the afternoon, you have the same strength of winds, but it will only be overcast.

For stacking tee times, I will give a slight advantage to the early/late guys since they don't have to worry about the rain. However, I care more about wind then rain and for that, I will probably make 2 lineups for the early/late and 2 lineups for the late/early to be more balance. If there are any changes by Wednesday night, I will update it via twitter.

Good luck everyone!!
