2016 Green Bay Packers Outlook
Green Bay's rushing attack survived a very pedestrian season from Eddie Lacy, and a lot of that had to do with James Starks. Lacy had top 10 rushing seasons in the first two years, but was out of the top 20 in 2015. You have probably heard about his weight loss over the offseason, which is a good sign for his health and 2016 performance. Green Bay finished second to the Patriots in 2014 for points per game (29.7). Last season they dropped to 15th (23.5). You can chalk that up to the absence of Jordy Nelson, and the slide of Lacy.
Despite the Lacy slowdown, they still ran the ball above the league average in play-calling. Two seasons ago they had a 45% run selection, and in 2015 it sat at 43%. Green Bay continues to be a balanced offense, which was why that 2014 team was so efficient. I expect a drastic shift towards 2014 numbers, and I am willing to overlook 2015's lackluster performance.
Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay passing attack was hurting last year. They ranked 25th in passing yards per game, and ranked 9th in 2014. Nelson was a factor for this, but the average running game, and game flow made the Packers offense a bit predictable. Rodger's had a career low rating (92.7) after posting six consecutive seasons above 100. With Nelson he averages about five more fantasy points per game in comparison to when Nelson was absent. With a full arsenal back, and a slimmed down Lacy, many will expect that dynamic offense that made it look so easy from two years ago. The 2015 tilting crowd may still be there so look to jump on them before everyone boards the Packers train.
