2016 New Orleans Saints Outlook

It's more of the same for the Saints. As long as Drew Brees is in town, the Saints offense is going to be top notch in all aspects of efficiency. The Saints were fourth in plays run and second in passing attempts in 2015. While the teams in the NFC North are improving, the defenses (other than the Panthers) are still a work in progress, and the Saints should be in in a bunch of shootouts once again in 2016.

Drew Brees had one of his worst seasons with the Saints in 2015, which was mostly a byproduct of multiple injuries he was dealing with throughout the year, mostly notably the shoulder. 2015 was the first time Brees had thrown less than 32 passing touchdowns since 2007, and the least passing attempts and yards since 2010. With Brees back to 100% and the Saints bringing in much needed weapons, he should be back to the pace he set from 2011-to-2014.

The running back breakdown should be fairly simple as long as Mark Ingram is healthy. In 12 games, Ingram had 216 touches. He had 1174 total yards from scrimmage and six rushing touchdowns. While Ingram once again dealt with injuries that ultimately ended his season, he was very productive from a fantasy perspective in the games he played. While they did play CJ Spiller last offseason, he isn't a real threat to Ingram's role at this stage, and should continue in the limited third down role he played last year (34 receptions on 44 targets).

Brandin Cooks led the receiving charge with 129 targets. He turned that into 84 receptions, 1134 yards and nine touchdowns. Next in line was Willie Snead, who emerged from UFA status and solidified his role and secured 101 targets. Tight end Ben Watson's 825 receiving yards and six touchdowns should be replaced by Coby Fleener. While that's a big total for Fleener, in that offense and with the money they gave him in free agency, he should be a prominent figure in the offense. 2015 was Marques Coston's final season with the saints, and while he was solid on his 67 targets, it would probably be better served to rookie second round pick Michael Thomas.
