2016 New York Giants Outlook
Eli Manning threw 4,432 yards last season, and 35 touchdowns. Manning and OBJ were a popular connection, and they will be once again this year. The Sterling Shepard addition could also be a nice secondary piece to the stack, or a contrarian pivot away from OBJ. Of course we still need to see Shepard play at an NFL level, but it is a risk to take in the early weeks. The Giants are a high volume passing team, who threw as much as the Colts did last year (61%). This bodes well for everyone involved in the passing game, and in DFS terms we always come in looking at the passing attack in comparison to taking a running back not named Shane Vereen. Eli used running backs in the pass game slightly above the league average, as they had a 24% reception rate. They threw 39 times per game, which was the eighth most in the league. In the redzone, New York had 88% of their touchdowns come via the pass.
Rashad Jennings could be in line for more carries, but the overall running back workload should stay the same. This is fine if Jennings actually carries most of the work, but if it becomes split again, it is an irrelevant situation for fantasy. Jennings and Vereen will be the two guys to narrow down weekly, and it will be a game theory situation to determine who would see the most snaps and scoring opportunities. Overall, New York scored 26.2 points per game last season, as the offense had to bail out a bad defense. They ran the 10th most plays per game, and these numbers should hover around the 2015 averages.
