2016 New York Jets Outlook
The Jets passing game was a solid fantasy commodity in 2015, and while things are a bit shaky coming into 2016, a signed Ryan Fitzpatrick would stabilize the situation. The Jets play selection was right around the league average (57%), but they led the league in reception percentage by wide receivers (72%). They ranked 8th in percentage by running backs (26%), and dead last for tight ends (2%). Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker were both targeted heavily, ranking 5th and 14th in WR targets. New York ranked 6th in average passing touchdowns per game, and were in the top half in average pass attempts. New York's defense provided the offense with a ton of plays, running the sixth most plays per game in the NFL. If Fitz remains with the Jets, this top ten passing attack would likely remain put, and be an attractive fantasy option in all formats.
The passing game was efficient last season, but given the Jets ran the sixth most plays per game last year, the rushing game had their share of touches. Chris Ivory ranked 9th among qualified backs in percentage of team's touches in games started (33.5).The back right behind him in that stat — Matt Forte (32.6%). This is a good indicator of the Forte workload, which is discussed a little further in the depth chart page. The offensive line used to be a force in the league, but things have taken a turn over the last season. They did rush for a league average, but a balanced offense helped their quite a bit. With Chan Gailey predicting a lot of Forte in the slot, and pass-catching out of the back — you are taking a look at possibly a heavier passing attack from New York. Once again, this wouldn't be as attractive if it is Geno Smith under center, and not Fitzpatrick.
