The ownership rates below are from the $1 buy-in Mini Dive GPP at FanDuel.
Hat tip to colleague Jason Guilbault for nabbing the ownership rates this week.
Quarterback
QB | Opp | Ownership % | DK Salary | FD Salary |
Derek Carr | @Lions | 16 | $6,300 | $7,700 |
Cam Newton | Redskins | 12 | $6,900 | $8,600 |
Tom Brady | Bills | 9 | $8,500 | $9,200 |
Matt Ryan | Colts | 5 | $7,100 | $7,800 |
Matthew Stafford | Raiders | 5 | $5,400 | $7,000 |
Phillip Rivers | Chiefs | 3 | $6,900 | $8,300 |
Case Keenum | @ Ravens | 3 | $5,000 | $4,800 |
Mark Sanchez | Buccaneers | 2 | $5,000 | $6,400 |
Aaron Rodgers | @Vikings | 1 | $7,500 | $8,900 |
Ryan Tannehill | Cowboys | 1 | $5,100 | $7,000 |
No surprises at the top. Derek Carr is on fire and has made the leap in year two, and he's facing a trash defense. I love Carr this week, and the DFS masses are with me. Cam Newton has been on back-to-back FanDuel Million winning rosters, and his ability to pile up points with his arm and legs makes him a great GPP play. Tom Brady is playing at a level bested only by his 2007 season, and the Pats have the highest team over/under total of the week. It probably doesn't hurt that he torched the Bills earlier in the year. All three rank among my favorite plays at the position this week. Case Keenum's price has created some buzz in the Twitterverse, and it's no surprise to see him net a bit of ownership. I'm not personally a fan, but for a few GPP rosters, it makes sense to nab him because of the insane salary relief he provides. On DraftKings, he's far less enticing. Mark Sanchez is another cheap injury fill-in, and considering his solid play in Chip Kelly's offense last year, I like him this week against a below average Buccaneers defense. His ownership rate does nothing to dissuade me from using him.
Running Back
RB | Opp | Ownership% | DK Salary | FD Salary |
Charcandrick West | @ Chargers | 34 | $4,500 | $7,100 |
Devonta Freeman | Colts | 25 | $8,400 | $9,100 |
Lamar Miller | Cowboys | 18 | $6,200 | $7,400 |
Todd Gurley | @ Ravens | 14 | $7,600 | $9,200 |
Adrian Peterson | Packers | 12 | $6,800 | $8,900 |
Jeremy Langford | Broncos | 11 | $5,600 | $6,700 |
Chris Ivory | @ Texans | 9 | $6,100 | $7,200 |
DeMarco Murray | Buccaneers | 9 | $6,000 | $7,600 |
Darren McFadden | @ Dolphins | 8 | $5,000 | $6,800 |
Danny Woodhead | Chiefs | 7 | $5,300 | $6,400 |
Latavius Murray | @ Lions | 7 | $5,600 | $6,800 |
Jonathan Stewart | Redskins | 7 | $4,400 | $7,000 |
LeGarrette Blount | Bills | 7 | $5,000 | $7,300 |
Marshawn Lynch | 49ers | 5 | $6,700 | $8,100 |
LeSean McCoy | @ Patriots | 5 | $5,500 | $7,500 |
As high as Charcandrick West's ownership rate is here, it could literally be double that at DraftKings. DK rosters might as well come auto-filled with West and a forthcoming wide out. Devonta Freeman makes for a strong play, and one who's easier to pull the trigger on using at FanDuel, where the gap in pricing between him and the other top backs isn't as great. I believe his ownership rate will be a bit lower at DraftKings. Lamar Miller is one of my favorite running back plays this week, but I'm a tiny bit disappointed by his ownership rate. I would have guessed he'd be under 15%, but I was wrong. Regardless, the Cowboys are getting killed by backs on the ground and through the air, and Miller is a great play in all game types. Todd Gurley's ownership rate should get a bump at DraftKings since he's not the most expensive back there and offers $800 of salary relief from Freeman. Adrian Peterson is one of my favorite options at any position, and his laughable sub-$7,000 salary at DraftKings should assure an ownership rate north of 20%. I'll still be locking him into the bulk of my rosters. Of the bargain bacs, I like both Darren McFadden and Jonathan Stewart quite a bit, but both should get a slight uptick in ownership at DraftKings, namely Stewart.
Wide ReceiverWR | Opp | Ownership% | DK | FD |
Danny Amendola | Bills | 27 | $4,000 | $6,100 |
Julio Jones | Colts | 26 | $9,300 | $9,100 |
Amari Cooper | @ Lions | 23 | $6,800 | $7,200 |
Michael Crabtree | @ Lions | 20 | $6,000 | $6,500 |
Mike Evans | @ Eagles | 12 | $7,300 | $8,000 |
Larry Fitzgerald | Bengals | 12 | $7,200 | $7,400 |
Jarvis Landry | Cowboys | 11 | $6,700 | $7,200 |
Stevie Johnson | Chiefs | 9 | $3,900 | $5,600 |
Eric Decker | @ Texans | 9 | $5,800 | $7,000 |
Calvin Johnson | Raiders | 8 | $7,200 | $8,100 |
Dez Bryant | @ Dolphins | 7 | $7,700 | $8,400 |
Demaryius Thomas | @ Bears | 7 | $7,300 | $7,700 |
Randall Cobb | @ Vikings | 4 | $6,700 | $7,100 |
T.Y. Hilton | @ Falcons | 4 | $6,200 | $7,200 |
DeAndre Hopkins | Jets | 4 | $8,800 | $8,900 |
Jordan Matthews | Buccaneers | 4 | $6,000 | $6,300 |
A.J. Green | @ Cardinals | 4 | $7,700 | $8,200 |
Alshon Jeffery | Broncos | 3 | $6,800 | $7,500 |
Rishard Matthews | Cowboys | 2 | $4,700 | $6,400 |
Golden Tate | Raiders | 2 | $4,600 | $6,200 |
Emmanuel Sanders | @ Bears | 0 | $7,000 | $7,600 |
Dontrelle Inman | Chiefs | 0 | $3,000 | $5,000 |
Danny Amendola is the other player DraftKings might as well auto-fill rosters with in addition to West. With the FLEX position and a full-point PPR scoring format, Ammendola's ownership rate should eclipse 40% at DK. He's a great source of salary relief with a high floor and high ceiling. Julio Jones is a stud, and chatter about Vontae Davis shadowing Jones isn't scaring gamers off. With a bigger gap between he and the other top options at WR on DK, I'd guess his ownership rate will hover closer to 20% there. The Raiders' WR duo of Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree should have their way with the Lions, and either, or both, make for strong stacking options with the highest owned GPP QB of the week, Derek Carr. Mike Evans should be a one-man show again this week against free-agent bust Byron Maxwell and the Eagles. A dozen targets should be a lock for him, and I'm pumped to see him owned on under 15% of rosters. Jordan Matthews' low ownership after a disappointing week last week isn't surprising, but it's intriguing from a GPP perspective given his strong play with Mark Sanchez last year. I'm also digging the 7% ownership duo of Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas.
Tight End
TE | Opp | Ownership % | DK Salary | FD Salary |
Greg Olsen | Redskins | 20 | $6,200 | $6,400 |
Rob Gronkowski | Bills | 14 | $7,700 | $8,400 |
Jordan Reed | @ Panthers | 7 | $4,900 | $5,800 |
Antonio Gates | Chiefs | 6 | $4,800 | $5,900 |
Tyler Eifert | @ Cardinals | 5 | $5,900 | $6,200 |
Jason Witten | @ Dolphins | 5 | $5,100 | $5,500 |
Eric Ebron | Raiders | 4 | $3,500 | $5,400 |
Zach Ertz | Buccaneers | 1 | $3,100 | $5,200 |
I love Rob Gronkowski this week, and I'm downright giddy about the fact he's not the highest owned TE. I completely understand skimping some money and spinning down to Greg Olsen, as Cam Netwon simply doesn't have many other options to turn to, and the QB/TE stack could pay off in spades. The Chiefs are tough as nails on tight ends, but the cupboards are empty for Phillip Rivers, making Antonio Gates an appealing GPP option, especially at his low ownership rate. Don't expect Eric Ebron to be under 5% owned on DraftKings, where the gap in pricing between he and the top options is far greater. You can probably safely triple that ownership rate, as it's no secret gamers (rightfully) love picking tight ends against the Raiders.
Defense
DEF | Opp | Ownership % | DK Salary | FD Salary |
Seahawks | 49ers | 20 | $4,000 | $5,400 |
Panthers | Redskins | 12 | $3,400 | $4,900 |
Jets | @ Texans | 9 | $3,000 | $4,700 |
Eagles | Buccaneers | 6 | $3,100 | $4,900 |
Rams | @ Ravens | 5 | $3,600 | $5,000 |
Bears | Broncos | 4 | $2,000 | $4,200 |
Patriots | Bills | 4 | $3,200 | $4,800 |
Falcons | Colts | 3 | $3,400 | $4,600 |
Gamers know a good thing when they see it, and the Seahawks hosting Blaine Gabbert is a good thing. They're an expensive defense, but with some bargain options all over the field, it's easier than usual to budget for a luxury item like a top defense this week. If you don't quite feel like spending up to them, the Panthers also make for a strong play, and gamers have jumped all over him. The Jets are getting a nice ownership boost thanks to Brian Hoyer being ruled out this week. The Patriots ownership rate stands out to me, as they put Tyrod Taylor on his back frequently and forced some turnovers the first time the Bills and Patriots met in Buffalo.
