The ownership rates for QB are from the $2 & $1 Snap at FanDuel. All other positions are from $2 Snap at FanDuel.

Quarterback Ownership %
Tom Brady 19.50%
Phillip Rivers 9.40%
Matt Ryan 7.60%
Aaron Rodgers 6.90%
Eli Manning 5.40%
Tyrod Taylor 5.20%
Alex Smith 4.50%
Blake Bortles 3.20%
Peyton Manning 2.90%
Sam Bradford 2.70%
Marcus Mariota 2.70%
Drew Brees 2.10%
Jameis Winston 1.80%
Michael Vick 1.80%
Jay Cutler 1.20%
Josh McCown 0.90%
Russell Wilson 0.80%
Matthew Stafford 0.40%

Thoughts: Predictably, Brady's ownership leads the way. He's in pristine form this year, coming off of a bye and the Pats are a big betting favorite at Dallas. Rivers' ownership exceeding that of Eli Manning is a bit surprising to me, and Manning's value gets a shot in the arm in GPPs if the ownership trend holds form. Bradford is another player whose ownership I was a bit surprised by, and he was already a top-5 GPP QB in my mind, but I'm now more excited about rostering him against the worst pass defense in the league.

Running Backs

Running Back Ownership %
Devonta Freeman 30.1%
Le'Veon Bell 29.6%
Jamal Charles 15.1%
Dion Lewis 12.5%
Justin Forsett 12.2%
Todd Gurley 11.0%
LeGarrette Blount 5.6%
Eddie Lacy 5.2%
T.J. Yeldon 5.4%
Matt Forte 4.0%
Anthony “Boobie" Dixon 4.0%
Doug Martin 3.7%
Ronnie Hillman 3.0%
Chris Johnson 2.8%
Mark Ingram 2.5%
DeMarco Murray 2.0%
Joseph Randle 1.9%
Melvin Gordon 0.7%
Latavius Murray 0.6%
Jeremy Hill 0.3%

Thoughts: The lemmings aren't chasing Hill's three TD showing, but his ownership could go up slightly if he is a full participant in practice before Sunday's game. Todd Gurley is getting love after his huge showing against the 49ers, but it's a bit less love than I expected. Perhaps the spread is scaring gamers off. Dion Lewis is owned on twice as many rosters as bruising backfield mate LeGarrette Blount, and that creates a nifty pivot if you're looking for the Pats to salt away a lead. After scoring 6 TDs in the last two games combined, I probably shouldn't be shocked to see Devonta Freeman with the highest ownership rate, yet I am. I expected Le'Veon Bell to edge him out, and in fairness, the gap is less than 1%. Lagging way behind both, remarkably, is Jamal Charles. Charles is a stud, with a monstrous home favorite status and his ownership is too low. T.J. Yeldon's ownership cements his status as one of my favorite backs this week against a bad Bucs defense. It's worth noting, Arian Foster was 20.3% owned and Frank Gore was 8.5% owned in the Thursday contests, and that ownership will have to trickle somewhere. At $8,200, Foster was a sizable investment, so it's possible the gamers who used him on Thursday will spread their ownership across the "Big Three" of Charles, Bell and Freeman. Gore's cap hit was just $6,900.

Wide Receivers

Wide Receiver Ownership %
Julian Edelman 24.5%
Larry Fitzgerald 20.4%
Jeremy Maclin 17.9%
Keenan Allen 13.6%
Julio Jones 13.2%
Odell Beckham Jr. 11.4%
Allen Robinson 10.5%
Travis Benjamin 8.4%
Emmanuel Sanders 8.0%
Jordan Matthews 7.2%
James Jones 6.9%
Antonio Brown 5.2%
Kamar Aiken 5.0%
Vincent Jackson 4.5%
Willie Snead 4.5%
A.J. Green 4.2%
Randall Cobb 4.0%
Demaryius Thomas 3.9%
Martavis Bryant 3.4%
Leonard Hankerson 3.4%
Reuben Randle 3.3%
Amari Cooper 3.2%
John Brown 2.8%
Mike Evans 2.6%
Pierre Garcon 2.6%
Allen Hurns 2.5%
Terrance Williams 1.7%
Brandin Cooks 1.3%
Golden Tate 1.0%
Tyler Lockett 0.8%

Thoughts: I expected Julio Jones' ownership to flirt with 25%, and I'm thrilled to see him fall well short of that number since he'll be on the vast majority of my GPP rosters. Julian Edelman leads the way in ownership, and that's slightly shocking since FanDuel counts just 0.5 points per reception. I'd imagine he'll be even higher owned on DraftKings due to their full PPR and flex spot. Mike Evans remains one of my favorite GPP options since his usage should get a shot in the arm from not opposing lockdown corner Josh Norman. At under 3% ownership, he is a high-upside potential difference maker. Larry Fizgerald's hot start hasn't resulted in a price hike that lines up with it, and gamers are jumping all over the bargain price. After two monster games, I'm a bit shocked to see Maclin's ownership fall short of 20%. He's a great option in GPPs, and I'd slightly prefer him to Fitz without considering ownership. If he's going to remain lower owned, I like him even more. A Manning/OBJ stack is going to be considerably lower owned than I expected if these ownership rates stay in the same range. Ditto on Bradford/Matthews. The last name I'll highlight from the wide outs is Allen Hurns. Hurns has been incredibly consistent this year and returned to practice in a full capacity on Thursday, so I'm not convinced his low ownership is the product of gamers being scared of the injury that limited him in practice earlier in the week. Once again, this is a position where noting the ownership of a couple of wide receivers from the Thursday Night Football game is important. DeAndre Hopkins ($8,000) was owned on a whopping 37.9% of rosters and T.Y. Hilton ($7,500) was owned on 9.2% of rosters. Again, that ownership going to have to go somewhere and I'd guess Hopkins owners will spread their usage around to Jones, Edelman, Fitz and Maclin. Edelman, Maclin and Fitz should also get a boost in ownership from the similarly priced T.Y. Hilton.

Tight Ends

Tight End Ownership %
Rob Gronkowski 23.4%
Antonio Gates 12.6%
Martellus Bennett 11.3%
Charles Clay 6.6%
Jason Witten 5.4%
Travis Kelce 4.8%
Tyler Eifert 3.8%
Jimmy Graham 1.8%
Larry Donnell 1.1%
Zach Ertz 0.7%

Thoughts: Gronkowski leads the way in ownership, which isn't a shocker at all. I am surprised he's not over 25% owned though, but it looks like a case of Edelman cannibalizing some of his ownership. So much for gamers being concerned about Gates needing to shake the rust off after missing the first four games due to suspension. I'll comfortably fade him. Charles Clay is criminally under owned, and Kelce's ownership provides a possibility for a big edge for gamers who are willing to pay up for him.

Defenses

Defense Ownership %
Denver Broncos 19.0%
New York Giants 13.6%
Atlanta Falcons 6.2%
New England Patriots 6.0%
Arizona Cardinals 5.6%
Kansas City Chiefs 4.4%
Buffalo Bills 4.2%
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 3.9%
Green Bay Packers 3.0%
Seattle Seahawks 1.5%

Thoughts: Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers offense have been pathetic, and gamers are cognizant of that. The Giants aren't an expensive defense, and gamers are jumping all over them. On rosters you're not using Todd Gurley, I love the Packers defense as a low-owned, high upside team since they're sizable favorites at home. With the Patriots also big favorites and facing a backup QB led Cowboys team, I'm surprised to see their ownership fall short of 10%. They're one of my favorite defenses in games of all types.

I have been debating all week between Rivers and Bradford in GPP's looks like Bradford it is.

I loved Bradford before seeing his ownership, and now I'm head over heels for him.

Love this post, thanks Josh! I think this will be great with salaries and opponent. I will be visiting this post each week. Randall Cobb, Anthony “Boobie" Dixon % is a big surprising. Maybe Dixon will change later in week. This the week to fade Freeman?

I thought it was the week to fade Freeman even before seeing his ownership. Washington only gives up 3.9 yards per carry, 78 yards a game and has only allowed 1 rushing touchdown. You don't beat them running the ball, you beat them through the air.

Stunned at how low Rodgers is. Can't wait to throw him in against the Rams this week in some GPPs. I'm fading Freeman. Coleman has been bumped up to "Probable". Not saying he'll take a ton away, but certainly will be involved IMO.

Yup, Rodgers ownership rate is sweet, as is Randall Cobb's. That's an intriguing stack, IMO.

Rivers-Allen % isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, and will probably be my staple for both cash and GPP tomorrow. Great info Josh, thanks!
