While Carlos Martinez is definitely a very good pitcher and the most talented hurler on the slate tonight, this play is more about his price tag and matchup than anything else. There are only a handful of SPs I am willing to pay upwards of 12K for and 'Little Pedro' does not make the cut. There is no question Martinez always has K upside but this matchup and price tag screams 'FADE' to me. Coming in as the chalk SP only makes it that much easier to fade Martinez especially when looking at the very pedestrian numbers Martinez has put up against the Reds in his career. In over 100 career AB's, Cincinnati has hit over .280 against CMart and tagged him for 6 hits and 5 ER in his worst start of the season on April 9. With high upside arms like Samardzija and Manaea coming in at thousands cheaper then Martinez tonight, there is simply no reason to pay over 12K for him in a bad matchup in a small park. To be extra contrarian, Playing the Reds bats is extremely sneaky. With Martinez probably coming in as the highest owned pitcher, guys like Votto and Cozart will be much less owned than they should.
