We are looking ahead at week 15, to find the elite matchups for wide receivers against corners. Using Pro Football Focus's ratings as a base, we are able to get an advanced look at what matchups we can take advantage of. They matchups are broken down into the top tier matchups, middle tier matchups, and matchups to fade. Now the opposing cornerback may not always be on the highlighted receiver, but this is a look at who the highlighted receiver will likely see most of the game. Not every number one cornerback covers the opposing team's wide receiver. They usually stay on their side of the field, and on occasion can shadow a number one. I will continue to edit it during the week, if there is given news of a switch in matchups.
Top Tier Matchups
WR | Grade | DraftKings | FanDuel | CB | Grade | Matchup Grade |
Jeremy Maclin | B- | $5,500 | $6,700 | Shareece Wright | D+ | B+ |
Sammy Watkins | B | $6,200 | $7,200 | Quinton Dunbar | C- | B+ |
Danny Amendola | B | $5,700 | $7,000 | Coty Sensabaugh | F | A- |
John Brown | B+ | $4,900 | $6,300 | Byron Maxwell | F | A |
Allen Hurns | B+ | $5,600 | $7,000 | Robert Alford | D+ | A- |
Julio Jones | A+ | $8,500 | $8,600 | Nick Marshall | C- | A |
Alshon Jeffery | A | $7,300 | $7,900 | Xavier Rhodes | F | A |
Randall Cobb | C+ | $6,300 | $7,200 | T.J. Carrie | F | B |
Doug Baldwin | B+ | $5,800 | $7,400 | K'Waun Williams | C- | A- |
A.J. Green | A- | $7,900 | $8,700 | Tramaine Brock | C+ | A |
Calvin Johnson | B+ | $6,900 | $8,000 | Brandon Browner | F- | A+ |
Jeremy Maclin - 30 targets in the last three weeks has made Jeremy Maclin a very nice DFS target. He will have another solid matchup against the Ravens this week, seeing Shareece Wright. Baltimore ranks 13th against opposing WR1, per Football Outsiders. Matchup is in his favor, and his price still sits fairly low.
Sammy Watkins - Four touchdowns in the last three games for Sammy Watkins, and this is a matchup where he could see both Quinton Dunbar, and Bashaud Breeland. For our sakes, we are hoping Dunbar. Looking back Alshon Jeffery hardly saw Breeland, so expect Watkins to stay on the opposite side of the field.
Danny Amendola - Julian Edelman might be back, but I doubt they are in any sort of rush. I am looking for Danny Amendola to continue to be the slot-receiver in New England. He will have a great matchup against Coty Sensabaugh. Tennessee's pass defense has been decimated over the last few weeks, hard to not see New England doing the same.
John Brown - John Brown is my favorite WR to stack with Carson Palmer this week. He will see a healthy dose of Byron Maxwell this week, who has an F grade, per PFF. With Fitz in a tougher matchup, Brown is in the best spot of the Arizona receiving core.
Allen Hurns - It is another week to target Allen Hurns. Allen Robinson will be locked into a battle with Desmond Trufant, while Hurns gets Robert Alford. Atlanta ranks 29th against opposing WR2.
Julio Jones - A week smashed in between two games against Josh Norman, this will be the second to last time we use Jones this season. Jones will likely see Nick Marshall, who Jacksonville has been praising. This is still an elite matchup for Jones, as Jacksonville ranks 20th against opposing WR1.
Alshon Jeffery - Coming off of a 6-107-1 line, Jeffery is in a good spot against Xavier Rhodes, who has yet to post a coverage grade over 50, since week 2. Minnesota is battered on the defensive side, and rank 14th against opposing WR1.
Randall Cobb - If you are looking to pivot off popular receivers this week, Randall Cobb is in a good spot. He will lineup against slot-corner, T.J. Carrie. He ranks as the 91st corner, per PFF. He is coming off an 8-81-0 line, which is one of his better
Doug Baldwin - Nine touchdowns in the last five games, it is impossible to not like Baldwin this week, and the matchup favors him as well. If Seattle can't get the run game going, expect the passing game to thrive again. Cleveland ranks 22nd against opposing WR1, as K'waun Williams has a subpar PFF grade.
A.J. Green - While Green's touchdown came with A.J. McCarron under center, I do expect them to lean on the run game, and play stout defense against San Fran this week. If Cincy does crank up the passing game, expect Green to grab a ton of targets. Tramaine Brock has a C+ grade, but still nothing more than average.
Calvin Johnson - Detroit takes on the Saints, which puts Megatron on our radars solely based on the names of the teams. Johnson should lineup across Brandon Browner, the 113th rated CB, which is laughable at this point. Matchup is great, but many times this season Johnson is a ghost on the field.
Middle Tier Matchups
WR | Grade | DraftKings | FanDuel | CB | Grade | Matchup Grade |
Willie Snead | C+ | $4,600 | $6,000 | Nevin Lawson | F | B- |
Tyler Lockett | B- | $4,200 | $6,000 | Tramon Williams | C+ | C+ |
DeAndre Hopkins | B+ | $8,500 | $8,700 | Vontae Davis | C+ | B- |
Michael Floyd | B- | $4,400 | $6,100 | Eric Rowe | C | B- |
Willie Snead - With Brandin Cooks lined up with Darius Slay, Willie Snead will see Nelvin Lawson, an F grade corner. Detroit ranks 22nd against opposing WR2. Snead is coming off of 122 yard receiving game, but has only scored three touchdowns all year. If you are looking for a cheap play, Snead could be a sneaky play.
Tyler Lockett - The other side of the passing game in Seattle, Tyler Lockett is still at a minimal price, and now has a bigger role in the passing game. He will draw the tougher of the two matchups, but this one is a push. Cleveland ranks 20th against opposing WR2.
DeAndre Hopkins - Vontae Davis does not fear me off wideouts, but I am not jumping for joy here. Davis is a solid coverage corner, who will see a steady dose of Hopkins. Hopkins had 11 catches, for 169 yards against Indy earlier this season.
Michael Floyd - Floyd is a great GPP target for this weekend, coming off back-to-back weeks with 100+ receiving yards. He will see Eric Rowe, who has been fairly average, of course outside of trying to cover Calvin Johnson a few weeks ago. I really like Floyd and Brown in this matchup.
Tough Matchups
WR | Grade | DraftKings | FanDuel | CB | Grade | Matchup Grade |
Pierre Garcon | C | $4,100 | $5,600 | Ronald Darby | A- | D- |
Odell Beckham Jr. | A- | $9,200 | $9,100 | Josh Norman | A | It's Josh Norman |
Larry Fitzgerald | A | $7,300 | $7,200 | Malcolm Jenkins | A | C- |
T.Y. Hilton | B | $5,900 | $7,000 | Jonathan Joseph | B | C |
Michael Crabtree | B- | $5,700 | $6,700 | Demarius Randall | C+ | C+ |
Allen Robinson | B+ | $7,600 | $8,100 | Desmond Trufant | B+ | C- |
Antonio Brown | A+ | $8,700 | $8,800 | Bradley Roby | B- | C |
Martavis Bryant | C | $5,500 | $7,100 | Aqib Talib | B- | D |
Pierre Garcon - If for somer reason you have been taking shots on Pierre Garcon, Ronald Darby will see a ton of him. He is the 4th ranked corner, per PFF. Buffalo ranks 4th against opposing WR1, if you can even call Garcon that.
Odell Beckham Jr. - I will be very entertained with this matchup, but not for fantasy purposes. Josh Norman has been a menace, and is the only corner I do not target against. Carolina ranks 2nd against opposing WR1, aka the Norman factor.
Larry Fitzgerald - If Arizona can move Larry Fitzgerald away from Malcom Jenkins, he will do fine. If not, I worry for his ceiling. I am not high on Fitz, despite Philly being bad against opposing WR1. Feel free to toss him in GPP's, but Jenkins ranks as the 2nd best defensive back.
T.Y. Hilton - Houston's pass defense has been pretty stout over the second half of the season, and Jonathan Joseph has a lot to do with that. He is the 14th rated corner, and this is a push for Hilton this week.
Michael Crabtree - Oakland has a decent matchup against the Packers' secondary, who could be without Sam Shields. I am not in love with it, but Crabtree could see Demarious Randall, who is nothing more than an average corner. Amari Cooper could see a third string corner if Shields sits.
Allen Robinson - A-Rob disappointed against the Colts, even with the Jags scoring over 50 points. It was Allen Hurns who had the big day, and it could be that way again. He will see Desmond Trufant, who is the reason Atlanta ranks 2nd against opposing WR1.
Antonio Brown - The Steelers have a tough matchup against Denver, who have taken a hit with the injury big. Brown will see Bradley Roby, who is an above average coverage corner. Denver ranks 3rd against opposing WR1, but Brown is still very much in play this week.
Martavis Bryant - Martavis Bryant on the other hand is a guy not really in play for me this week. Denver ranks 6th against WR2, and Talib is easily a top ten corner in the league. It will be a hard pass for me on Bryant.
