OK, so I am getting crushed in FanDuel basketball. I have completed the daily academy, read the cheat sheets, monitor injuries, use the lineup optimizer, look at D vs. Pos.... and I have now lost 14 days straight. I have no bias towards players and try to come up with lineups objectively.

I started out winning for a few weeks (up about $500 after first two weeks). Since, I have lost about $300 of that. My strategy has not changed, nor have my research methods. Not sure what I am missing. I am still up about $300 playing $1, $2, and $5 contests, but this recent downward trend has me scratching my head. Thoughts? It is very frustrating to think I have it figured out, only to encounter this horrific losing streak.

I have undoubtedly hit a will in basketball and cannot come up with a winning strategy. I am now 0 for 10 in "double up" contests. What else can I do? I am very close to giving up on basketball because for some reason I cannot even enjoy one day of profits in the last two weeks.

I know you guys cannot babysit everyone or hold my hand, but this losing streak is putting a lot of doubt in my abilities and before I stop I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something major.

Thanks!

Question

@garresk unfortunately losing streaks are a part of DFS. We all have them and they tend to happen a lot more in NBA DFS. I personally had a five day losing streak that had me frustrated as well because I did not change anything in my process. One thing that helps me is actually taking a couple days off to clear my head. Something that I also like to do even as a high stakes player is play in some of the free contests to try different strategies and lineups. I often do this when I am in a bit of a funk to see if I should switch my philosophies up. Also you may want to switch to smaller slates like express or late slates that only focus on a 3 or 4 games. Keep at it it will turn around.

Accepted Answer

I will echo what Zach said, but also curious to see your lineup construction. One low floor player can take down a lineup so if you are punting in cash, you will likely be on the outside of money. If you played last night, we can dissect your lineup here.

@garresk the first thing that jumps out to me is the Mavs. The Spurs are not a team I ever target against in cash. They also were huge favorites and are unbeatable at home. It also worked in reverse with them being such big favorites their stars were likely to not see many minutes.

i lost yesterday too, i believe the blow outs were maybe an issue?... but man! that Westbrook and Durant combo, they did work!!!!

and also Wade was GTD until last second, so i used Gerald Green and he left first half due to injury....

It happens i guess, part of the game!

Westbrook and Durant though, i think this is the 2nd time they both did +40 fan duel points each in a blow out game?...

The Parker injury was a blow for sure, and I agree with Zach on the Mavs. I didn't mind Dirk for the price yesterday and due to PF being really shallow. But it is odd. I played similar core of guys over on DK and was fine in cash last night. This was the $25 big double up, and was past the cash line by a decent amount.

I am also a fan of playing one lineup for all cash games.

Hmmm maybe FD is tougher? Idk. I try to play consistent guys with high floors. If they dont have a high floor then I am looking for guys filling in for injuries starters

Throwing in the towel boys. 16-day losing streak takes the fun out of it. Thank you for your help and resources, but I think I will take what little profit I still have and run. Take care and thanks again!
