Hey Cafer's,

I have seen a few people ask where to start when building a lineup and I just wanted to share where I start and explain it a little.

Below I posted a chart with all the games matchups along with their Rushing Offense rank, Rushing Defense rank, Passing Offense rank & Passing Defense rank. These ranks were obtained via NFL.com.

After that I look diagonally at each matchup and highlight it based on what I think is a favorable (green), middle of the road (yellow) or bad (red) matchup. The colors are solely my opinion that I choose as I take injuries into account, recent shifts in momentum and total # of weapons a team has. Once again, the colors are based on just my opinion as everyone else may have a different thought on who they feel is good or bad.

I will look at each matchup from there and decide positions or players I like.

Obviously, a lot more goes into it then just plain old matchups but this is just a starting point for me. Pure NFL ranks dont always translate well to fantasy success or failure.

Highlights

Buccaneers vs Saints: I like the RB matchup here. Saints give up 3rd most fantasy points to RBs and Buccaneers rank 2nd per NFL.com in rushing. Others have been high on any WRs versus Saints defense. I cannot find myself getting into Tampas offensive weapons. I do like Winston and what he has brought to the table but Mike Evans is too inconsistent for me and drops too many passes.

49ers vs Browns: Browns have a favorable passing offense matchup in my eyes. 49ers are a mess on all fronts and Manziel has 2 decent/good WRs to throw to and a great TE.

Vikings vs Cardinals: I dont think the Vikings are all that bad against the rush on defense. However, Im looking at their past 3 games of 100+ rushing yards. David Johnson is cheap in DFS right now and wouldn't take much to get him going and get me my value.

Chargers vs Chiefs: Chargers rank wise have a good passing offense. I personally marked them red because of their injuries. I just don't want to go cocoa for cocoa puffs based on that nice number up there. Chiefs give up a good amount of fantasy points to WRs so I will still likely partake in a Stevie Johnson. I know last week Inman was touted highly but I was and still am a Johnson man.

Keep tabs on Travis Benjamin before taking the value plunge with Johnny Football. When I start research, it's a somewhat similar approach. I always start with the Vegas lines, and then I move on to matchup rankings based on some combination of the raw stats, fantasy points allowed and the advanced metric ranks at Football Outsiders.
