Draft Kings week results: Lessons Learned

Take your daily fantasy game to the next level.

Good day. Before I get too in depth of my Draft King line-ups, I wanted to start with some things I learned this weekend.

*First and foremost, it took me 6 weeks to figure out that you almost always need a guarantee on your team. No team has been more of a guarantee than the Patriots. I mean I had a few scattered in some line-ups, but not having at least 1 in every lineup cost me winning $20 more. Seeing as they played Sunday night, I got to watch as I slipped out of the money.

*Which brings me to my next point. I need to eliminate my fandom from Draft Kings. I hate the Patriots. I hate them because they are so good, like....all the time. And good teams are easy to hate. I also LOVE the Bengals. Which somehow processes in my brain that I am higher on some of the team then I should be. This week was the Bengals Defense. They are playing very bend but don't break and while bending, give up points. Now, I dont see it as a complete noob move as EJ Manuel is good for at least 1 turnover a game. It just so happened that turnover didn't relate to many fantasy points. They certainly are no lights out Broncos defense, whom of which week after week impresses me.

*Next lesson. I typically make good use of NFL stats. I use these decisions to make changes to the base line-ups Colossus gives me week to week. For the most part, it has been a good move included with Vegas totals, odds, etc. Last minute this week however, it was like the DFS Gods shined a light down on me and whispered 'Denard Robinson'. So I obliged. I have to save being cute for my fiance. Had I looked at his NFL stats I would know the guy has never averaged more then 10 attempts per game. He has scored 4 tds in his entire career and overall screams 'stay away from me'. Bad move.....

*While I dislike the Pittsburgh Steelers, I do not hate them. I save that for their fans. I feel the hate for Steelers fans is well deserved. They seem to be the only fan base who only brings up the past when their team is doing bad.

Conversations like this are what brood an inner fire of anger towards them.

"I dont know man, Vick just isn't looking good this year. I could see a scenario where the Browns are #2 in the division."

-"Who are the Bungals? We have 6 rings and are the best team in football"

If any Steelers fan wants respect from me, I just want to hear you admit defeat. Just once. Admit your team is not what it used to be. Admit when you have a bad game. Admit that it was a mistake to pick 4 Steelers in your season long fantasy league.

To my point. I do not think LeVeon Bell has too many DFS bad games like this week. BUT with a backup in the mix, I just do not feel strongly about any Steeler. I really really liked Landry Jones and maybe he could be a cheap GPP play next week but I am not fond of anyone on that team right now.

*Finally, I have zero faith in the Packers running backs. Could Lacy maybe have 1 good week this year? Maybe. Yet, they started Starks and still barely used him in the running game. And Eddie Lacy needs to lay off the fried cheese curds man.

I also noticed I make too many last minute changes. I stated in one of these forums that I like Lamar Miller and feel the new aggressive interim coach will restore faith in the ground game. Yet, last minute, I removed him for who knows who. I need to stop the madness and stick to my lineups. I also need to continue the use of some dolphins. Miller and Jarvis will definitely be in some future lineups for me.

So with all that being said, I only ended up winning a few bucks this week. :\ Last week 150 points would of had me placed in almost any contest. This week it didnt do the trick.

So far I am 17 for 20 in my double ups this year.

  • Lineup 1: I entered this one in the three .25 GPP tournaments. One of which was a Thursday start without Devonta Freeman. Also, my cute play of Denard cost me.
  • Lineup 2: My only double loss this week. For some reason I didnt win the $10 double up last week either. I was 6 points away from the money.
  • Lineup 3: Entered this lineup in a $3 and $5 double up. Andre Ellington was my only bad decision here.

Lineup 4: I entered this in a $3 and $5 double up also. Maclin left with an injury but this was my highest scoring lineup of the week.

Lineup 5: This was my $1.5million entry. Kaepernick did his part. Calvin Johnson did his also. Donnell, Robinson and Peterson....sigh. I was 5 points from at least getting double my money back.

As a little bonus I did have a PGA Lineup. I will likely never do PGA again. It doesn't seem consistent enough to build a bank roll however I did win $4.

Lastly, I promise. The Bengals are the only team that is 6-0 and still get little respect. People are still waiting for the old Andy Dalton to return. People are still expecting us to be 1 and done in the playoffs this year. Why do I not hear from people how different Dalton looks? How healthy we are? Colin Cowherd....*shakes head in disgust*, just once admit you were wrong.

Since you and I are probably similar in our DFS experience from what I can tell (noobs), I can feel your frustration. So far, I have been profitable, mostly playing larger field tournaments which is kind of strange. I did win 2 cash games this week. But some late fiddling with my lineups screwed me out of possibly top 100 or better finishes in 2 tournaments at least. Going with Eddie Lacy even though I knew people were on him from the Thursday FanDuel %'s was a mistake (I play on DK). I also subbed out LeGarrete Blount for Chris Johnson in one of my highest scoring lineups, and Woodhead instead of Ivory in another. Both those lineups had Stafford/Johnson stacks as the main building blocks. I should have taken into consideration that a) Dion Lewis was banged up a bit, and b) Blount absolutely wrecks the Colts so why not go with what works? You really didn't miss out on a ton of points from the Pats though, Gronk and Edelman both had sub-par days when considering their price. Brady played well, but Stafford scored more I believe. Dalton also had a good day. I could have easily won some more cash games with lineups I entered into tournaments as well, so maybe I need to just play in a few more cash games and design some as I would a tournament lineup. Not sure I am spending up for Gronk on a large scale anymore, unless Edelman is out or something. 14 points for $7,600 isn't going to cut it as DK starts getting the prices right on some of the elite players like Ivory who are way under-priced. Gronk will have his big days though so its hard to ignore him completely.

Great update, once again. I really enjoy reading your updates. Thank you!

Lacy and Peterson failed you.

I agree on removing fandom and it's tough to do. Patriots have been about as consistent as you can get this year. Hopkins has been really nice as well.

Keep it going!

Im on Charles Clay a lot next week, even more if none of the WR weapons come back. Robert Woods also excites me this week but I think it may be another one of those cute plays. Plus, I think there are a lot of cheap RBs that should perform this week preventing me from taking the Woods risk. Latavius, Gurley, Miller come to mind.

First off, WHO DEY! Secondly, I can't say I disagree with the Steeler comments. I've lived in Ohio and California, and spent months at a time traveling to other states. The fans are everywhere. I was burned by Lacy and Peterson as well. My cash game team on FD had both, which was disappointing, considering i nailed all the other plays there. Fortunately it still worked out fine. Making sure we make adjustments each week is paramount to success, and I look forward to making adjustments and digging deeper each and every week. I feel like DK is going to see a ton of overlap in cash games once again. Gurley/Gates/Freeman/Hopkins are all going to be very popular. Ivory can be thrown in the mix as well, as his price increase was substantial, but not enough to scare me off of him at all at 5.8. Enjoying following your progress, and more importantly, Dalton's progress. WHO DEY!

If Bengals beat Steelers with BIG BEN I will feel invincible!!!

Steeler fans are literally everywhere. A lot come from not only western PA but also western NY (people who either never became Bills fans or fell in love with the 70s Steelers). They travel all over the place. Did you see when they were in San Diego??

Great breakdown again, and I was like you this week. I had a lot of Lacy ruin really good lineups. But didn't hurt too bad, due to Peterson and Bell not having big weeks either.

I am a Colts fan, and eliminated my fandom from fantasy two years ago. So I hate the Patriots as well, but knew their defense is horrendous and took a few Pats players.

Eliminating the Jets from my fantasy fandom has been pretty easy up until this year. I certainly wasn't drafting Geno or Sanchez for any season long leagues.

Yeah, the first weekend I was in Cali, I went to a bar in Huntington Beach to watch my Bengals. Little did I know it was a Steelers bar. I was not welcome lol.

Can I join your Eddie Lacy support group, guy? I was burned by him as well. Ditto on Peterson. I did have quite a few shares of Chris Ivory, so that saved the day to some extent.
