Cash Game Locks: MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball
Cash games typically reward high floor rosters. You don't need to score 60 points on FanDuel or 160 on DraftKings to win money. Instead you should aim for a nice base of around 40 and 120 points respectively. Our MLB Cash Game Picks will highlight the top pick and a value pick at each position for both platforms.
Pitcher
Michael Wacha (R), Cardinals
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opponent | Park Factors | FIP | K% | GB% | Vegas Team Run Total & Line |
$8,900 | $8,700 | Dodgers | Basic 98, HR 93 | 3.63 | 14.8% | 49.2% | 3.5 STL -154 |
Michael Wacha lacks the upside in strikeouts when compared to Tyson Ross, but he consistently puts up quality starts. Los Angeles looks like a scary lineup, and have numbers in the top five against right-handed pitching this season. Over the last two weeks, the Dodgers have just a 75 wRC+, and a .103 ISO. Busch Stadium is one of the better pitching parks in baseball, and Wacha has enjoyed it, with a career 2.31 ERA. Vegas has the Cardinals as heavy favorites tonight, and the team total is very modest for the Dodgers. The price point for just a quality start and a win is a little steep, but he is the safer option tonight.
Tim Lincecum (R), Giants
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opponent | Park Factors | FIP | K% | GB% | Vegas Team Run Total & Line |
$8,100 | $7,400 | Braves | Basic 83, HR 87 | 4.00 | 18.5% | 48.3% | 3 - SF -153 |
The Braves offense has been abysmal over the last two weeks. They own a .252 wOBA and a 57 wRC+. They are also striking out at a 21% clip, which is up compared to earlier in the season. We have seen Chris Heston and Tim Hudson shut down this Braves offenese, and Tim Lincecum should continue that trend. Like most of these Giants' pitchers, they have heavy home-road splits. Lincecum is allowing a .224 wOBA at home compared to .377 on the road. The Giants are heavy favorites, and the Braves have the lowest team total on the night.
Catcher
Stephen Vogt (L), A's | |||||||
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$3,400 | $3,900 | Nathan Eovaldi - R | .339 | .174 | 120 | 5 | 4 |
Nathan Eovaldi has been very consistent this season, and I mean consistent in allowing lefties to rake off him. They have a 27% line drive rate off Eovaldi to go with a .424 wOBA. Stephen Vogt has been very consistent this year with a .436 wOBA against right-handed pitching. With five west coast games, the A's offense are my favorite on the board due to Eovaldi's struggle against lefties.
Brian McCann (L), Yankees
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$3,800 | $4,000 | Jesse Hahn - R | .323 | .139 | 94 | 5 | 3.5 |
Brian McCann has been red hot, showing he can hit homers outside of Yankee Stadium. He has a homer in four straight games, and lefties have a 36% line drive rate against Jesse Hahn this season. With limited options behind the dish, and cheaper pitching tonight, you can pay up for a catcher behind the dish.
First Base
David Ortiz (L), Red Sox
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$2,600 | $4,800 | Chi-Chi Gonzalez - R | .408 | .276 | 159 | 5 | 4.5 |
After a few days off to rediscover his swing, David Ortiz will step back into the lineup tonight against a right-handed pitcher making his first big league start. Texas holds the most favorable hitting environment tonight, alongside the highest team totals. Ortiz has a 36% hard ball rate and has been still hitting for power this season, he just lacks in average. His strikeout and walk rates remained unchanged from his career average, and his BABIP is too low for his standards. A great hitting environment and facing a rookie right-handed pitcher makes Ortiz a strong play in cash games.
Miguel Cabrera (R), Tigers
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$4,900 | $4,700 | Jered Weaver - R | .418 | .261 | 168 | 3 | 3.5 |
The Tigers offense has been disappointing on this west coast swing, which is making me limit exposure to meatballer Jered Weaver. He has a 3.94 FIP against right-handed pitching and a low 40% ground-ball rate. Miguel Cabrera is doing typical Miguel Cabrera things. He has a .400+ wOBA off right-handed pitching, and he ranks 11th in hard hit ball rate.
Second Base
Kolten Wong (L), Cardinals
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$3,400 | $4,300 | Carlos Frias - R | .306 | .139 | 94 | 1 | 4 |
Kolten Wong moving up to the leadoff spot this season has made him a tremendous cash game play. The numbers above are due to his slow start in the majors. That is not the case this year as he holds a .389 wOBA off right-handed pitching. He is a threat to steal, which pairs up nicely with his .374 OBP. Carlos Frias has faced 110 left-handed batters in his short career and is allowing a .383 wOBA.
Ben Zobrist (S), A's | |||||||
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$3,100 | $4,000 | Nathan Eovaldi - R | .343 | .159 | 123 | 3 | 4 |
The super utility man is back, and Ben Zobrist has jumped back into the lineup hitting third. He gets a nice matchup against Eovaldi, and the top of the lineup looks much better when Zobrist is in it. Zobrist is only striking out at an 8% rate, and he fits in with an Oakland stack if you are looking to go that way tonight.
Shortstop
Jhonny Peralta (R), Cardinals
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$3,300 | $4,300 | Carlos Frias - R | .329 | .153 | 107 | 4 | 4 |
Jhonny Peralta has been on a tear this season, hitting .331 off right-handed pitching with a .183 ISO. He has been a steady producer as the new Cardinals' cleanup man and has a healthy 27% line drive rate off right-handed pitching. The Cardinals team total is set among the better teams tonight, but shortstop is not a deep position with Peralta being the lone option, so cheaper options are a way to go as well. Peralta and his teammates are among my favorite plays.
Third Base
Adrian Beltre (R), Rangers
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs LHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs LHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs LHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$3,300 | $4,500 | Wade Miley - L | .375 | .193 | 135 | 4 | 4.5 |
The track record of Adrian Beltre against left-handed pitching makes him a great cash game option tonight. Wade Miley has allowed a career .326 wOBA to right-handed bats, and has a 40% fly-ball rate this season. Texas is not the place to be a fly-ball pitcher, Globe Life Ballpark in Arlington has a 103 park factor for right-handed bats last season. He has a .348 wOBA against lefties this season, with a .226 ISO.
Matt Carpenter (L), Cardinals
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$3,900 | $4,700 | Carlos Frias - R | .354 | .185 | 130 | 2 | 4 |
Matt Carpenter's numbers against right-handed pitching this season is the definition of a cash game play. He has a .333/.421/.593 slashing line against right-handed pitching this season, and takes on Frias, who has struggled against lefties. Carpenter has a 31% line drive rate and a 43% hard ball rate. Stellar numbers from the third baseman.
Outfield
Hanley Ramirez (R), Red Sox
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$3,200 | $5,200 | Chi-Chi Gonzalez - R | .354 | .190 | 127 | 4 | 4.5 |
There has been a lot of speculation on if Hanley Ramirez is healthy, and the last two games has answered that question. His FanDuel price is a steal tonight, and his shortstop eligibility is a gift from DraftKings. Hanley is also enjoying his time away from Fenway this season with a .252 ISO on the road, which is 46 points higher than at home. He will get the advantage of taking on a rookie right-handed pitcher tonight, and is one of the safer Sox plays.
Josh Reddick (L), A's | |||||||
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$3,300 | $4,300 | Nathan Eovaldi - R | .347 | .209 | 123 | 6 | 4 |
Josh Reddick has cooled off from his hot start, but still a proven bat against weak right-handed pitching. He has 30 RBI, which is top 25 in the league, and is hitting .333 with runners in scoring position. Vogt and Reddick create the power, while I like Billy Burns as a deeper value play tonight. He has great speed, and has a 125 wRC+ this season.
Kole Calhoun (L), Angels
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$2,800 | $4,400 | Shane Greene - R | .337 | .174 | 120 | 4 | 4 |
Shane Greene has been tough on right-handed bats, but the complete opposite on lefties. He is allowing a .361 wOBA this season, with a 27% line drive rate. He allowed a .345 wOBA in 2014, so this is a trend that has carried into 2015. The Angels rather new cleanup man enjoys hitting at home with a .365 wOBA, compared to .282 on the road. His numbers are down from 2014, but still a great option against contact pitchers this year.
