MLB GPP Tournament Picks: 4-27-17

The purpose of this column is to highlight some players with upside and well-suited for tournaments. While the majority of the hitter picks will likely have power upside, that's not necessarily the case for all the listed options. Other contextual factors such as batting order, ballpark, opposing pitcher, price, speed, etc also come into play, and you'll see these items sprinkled into the write-ups below. Along with that, we'll be gauging the ownership levels, giving you some plausible pivots from the popular choices in a given game slate.

Top GPP Pitcher

Four game slate along with a hefty price tag would make most hesitate to roster Sale tonight. In GPP Pivoting is often critical, but Sale is one of the most trustworthy options tonight. He is in a matchup where the moneyline is -180, and his projected points over the next best starter is significant. He will break the bank but should keep you in contention. His K's alone will rack up some points to balance out any potential runs allowed. The odds for a quality start and win are also there so he makes a safe play tonight in both cash and GPP. I won't have him at 100% ownership, but it will be up there.

Top GPP Hitters

To say Pollock has been hot would be an understatement. He has scored 6 or more FanDuel points over his past 10 games, with 8 of those over 12 points. Pollock has been doing it all with hits, getting on base and swiping them too. He only has one home run in those 10 games, but clearly that will be an added bonus at the rate he is hitting this season.

Oh, did I forget to mention he is facing Jered Weaver tonight? The Diamondbacks will be very popular to stack tonight, and Pollock will be my top tier option, especially if I roster Sale.

Casey Lawrence has had two starts and holds a 7.56 ERA with 6 strikeouts in 8 innings pitched. Not very intimidating at all, and Carpenter has been playing better over his past 10 games. He has the ability to get on base nearly every game and should be able to take advantage of his lefty vs righty matchup tonight for sure. He is an affordable option at first base tonight as well.That .369 wOBA is very alluring tonight to say the least.

In Margot's last 10 games he has a hit or more in 8 of them. He has been averaging 9.67 FanDuel points this season, and 11.25 FanDuel points over his last 6 games. He will likely be owned higher than most nights due to the smaller slate, but he is affordable and the upside is here. He recently had a day of rest too so his legs should be fresh tonight. Even though the Diamondbacks are favored the Padres are still projected to score 4.5 runs and their leadoff hitter should be a part of that production.A .292 wOBA is rock solid for the youngster.

Descalso's price tag works out very well for the tiny slate tonight. He has been an all or nothing player this season, which should be expected for someone who is dirt cheap. The fact he is facing a righty in Jered Weaver is enough to let me lock him in tonight. His ability to hit right-handed pitching is significant, just look at his 0.324 wOBA. He can produce on any given tonight, his odds are just too good tonight to do just that.
