The purpose of this column is to highlight some players with upside and well-suited for tournaments. While the majority of the hitter picks will likely have power upside, that's not necessarily the case for all the listed options. Other contextual factors such as batting order, ballpark, opposing pitcher, price, speed, etc also come into play, and you'll see these items sprinkled into the write-ups below. Along with that, we'll be gauging the ownership levels, giving you some plausible pivots from the popular choices in a given game slate.
Top GPP Pitcher
Zack Greinke (RHP), Arizona Diamondbacks
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp | FIP | K% | GB% | Opp Run Total | Moneyline |
$10,200 | $10,800 | PITT- G. Cole | 4.01 | 19.8 | 42.2 | 3.5 | -130 |
Greinke has been fantastic this season and tonight should be no different pitching at home against a Pirates team that is struggling. Greinke has produced 40 or more FanDuel points over his last four starts, has a solid (Not Keuchel levels of course) Ground ball percentage too. He also has exceeded a strikeout an inning in 3 of his last four starts along with 4 quality starts and 2 wins. His ownership may be up there, but he likely won't be a top 3 in ownership percentage tonight.
Top GPP Hitters
Nolan Arenado (3B), Colorado Rockies
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP | ISO vs RHP | wRC+ vs RHP | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$4,700 | $5,300 | H. Ryu- LHP | 0.386 | 0.221 | 325 | 4 | 6 |
Ryu has been pitching well over his last three starts but it is hard to avoid the Coors Field draw whenever there are games there. Ryu has been pitching better and better, but the Lefty vs righty match in Coors Field, along with a 0.386 wOBA have me all in tonight. We have him with a projected 10.45 DraftKings points tonight.
Joey Votto (1B), Cincinnatti Reds
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs LHP | ISO vs LHP | wRC+ vs LHP | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$4,500 | $4,400 | T. Blach-LHP | 0.363 | 0.149 | 147 | 3 | 3.25 |
Votto could be considered a top option as well, but I like he and Arenado so much I have to include both. Votto has been crushing lefties all season and tonight facing a somewhat unknown commodity in Blach is about as appealing as it gets. He should also have low ownership tonight which adds to the appeal.
Adam Lind (1B), Washington Nationals
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP | ISO vs RHP | wRC+ vs RHP | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$3,100 | $3,500 | D. Bundy- RHP | 0.299 | 0.199 | 130 | 6 | 5 |
Lind has been platooning this season but pinch hit for a homerun on Tuesday night. Not too shabby at all. Tonight facing a right-hander in Bundy should have him in the starting lineup in some capacity with a DH spot open. Lind is hitting .324 on the season and is surrounded with RBI opportunities in Washington. If he is indeed in lineup I will be locking him in.
Steve Pearce (OF), Toronto Blue Jays
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP | ISO vs RHP | wRC+ vs RHP | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$2,700 | $3,300 | SEA- C. De Jong- RHP | 0.354 | 0.155 | 41 | 5 | 5.25 |
Pearce has been having a rough patch over his last five games but facing De Jong tonight could help him right the ship. A shiny wOBA of 0.354 certainly helps lure me in tonight. With a hard hitting percentage sitting at 37% certainly helps too.
Good Luck everyone!
