MLB GPP Tournament Picks: 6-17-17

The purpose of this column is to highlight some players with upside and well-suited for tournaments. While the majority of the hitter picks will likely have power upside, that's not necessarily the case for all the listed options. Other contextual factors such as batting order, ballpark, opposing pitcher, price, speed, etc also come into play, and you'll see these items sprinkled into the write-ups below. Along with that, we'll be gauging the ownership levels, giving you some plausible pivots from the popular choices in a given game slate.

Top GPP Pitcher

Jake Arrieta has not been the Arrieta we've been accustomed to the last couple of years. He's finding himself in a lot of trouble with walks, and has struggled to get out of some easier innings. Why is he on our radar then? Well when you look at this slate, you'll see that there is a lack of pitching options. The only other notable name is Porcello, but I think I'm done with him for a while. Arrieta has been dominant against the Pirates the last couple of years, and has the most upside of anyone that is on this slate. The Cubs' offense has been heating up, so he should have some run support as well. I'm going the safe route on this smaller slate, and pitching Arrieta in all formats.

Top GPP Hitters

Carlos Correa is the top SS available tonight, and it's not even close. I think everyone is going to save salary tonight and go to Lindor. I want the best player at his position in this spot, and that's exactly what Lindor is. There is some weather scare in MIN tonight, so if that's the case, everyone will be on Correa, but that's okay. I love him tonight in all formats.

Third base is very weak tonight, and I think Ramirez has a great shot to go yard tonight. He just went yard already today (tilting), but he makes the most sense at this weak 3B spot on this short slate. I love playing Ramirez against lefties, and tonight, he gets a bad one with Mejia. I love this spot for Ramirez tonight.

Paulino has had some trouble against left-handed hitters this year, and we have a good one tonight in JBJ. Bradley has been crushing the ball lately, and should have a great chance to go deep in tonight's game. At such an affordable price (way too cheap on FanDuel), he should be a part of your GPP lineups's tonight. Really like this spot for him.

Yan Gomes is my favorite catcher play on this night slate, even though there are some weather concerns. His price is something you should be excited about on this slate. He gives you plenty of salary relief to get those top guys, and has been a lefty masher in his career. Note: The chalky play will be Miguel Montero who is cheaper on FanDuel, and is batting in the 4th spot. This is a great way to go contrarian in GPP's.
