The purpose of this column is to highlight some players with upside and well-suited for tournaments. While the majority of the hitter picks will likely have power upside, that's not necessarily the case for all the listed options. Other contextual factors such as batting order, ballpark, opposing pitcher, price, speed, etc also come into play, and you'll see these items sprinkled into the write-ups below. Along with that, we'll be gauging the ownership levels, giving you some plausible pivots from the popular choices in a given game slate.

Top GPP Pitcher
Lance McCullers (RHP), Houston Astros
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp | FIP | K% | GB% | Opp Run Total | Moneyline |
$11,200 | $9,700 | @KC | 2.52 | 29.1 | 60.5 | 3.75 | -200 |
As tempting as it is to roll heavy Jake Odorizzi facing off against the 29th ranked team in wOBA vs right-handed pitching, instead I am going with the guy with the most upside on the slate. He will be heavily owned as well but one thing you are assured of with McCullers is strikeouts. His last start was far and away his worst of the season only lasting 4 innings and taking the loss. He did however strikeout 8 batters in those innings.
Tonight, he faces a Royals lineup that should scare no one and McCullers will likely be ready to rebound in a big way tonight. His groundball rate is the highest of all available pitchers, and his K rate also tops out the slate. Tonight's a night you should pay up.
Top GPP Hitters
Bryce Harper (OF), Washington Nationals
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP | ISO vs RHP | wRC+ vs RHP | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$4,700 | $5,400 | BAL: A. Asher- RHP | .391 | .340 | 189 | 3 | 5.5 |
Top end bat choice for me tonight is Bryce Harper who also projects out to be our highest scoring batter on the slate edging out Trea Turner and George Springer. On nights like tonight using my favorite player is a no doubter as he is facing Asher and the Orioles bullpen. His numbers paint a drool worthy picture tonight with a .391 wOBA and 189 wRC+ . Should be one of the safer high end plays of the night.
Don't let Asher's solid 22.5 DraftKings performance against the Red Sox in his last start sway you, he will not be doing that again tonight.
Robinson Cano (2B), Seattle Mariners
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP | ISO vs RHP | wRC+ vs RHP | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$3,500 | $4,700 | MIN: K. Gibson- RHP | .353 | .237 | 173 | 3 | 5.25 |
I won't deny I typically have bias for using players against the Twins, but this is Kyle Gibson facing some very good left-handed bats tonight. Cano is first on the list for me tonight, and I like his price and matchup more than the higher price Jose Altuve tonight. A .353 wOBA and 173 wRC+ is very nice as well, and Gibson should be considered a below league average right-handed pitcher, so Cano makes for an above solid play tonight.
Kyle Seager (3B), Seattle Mariners
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP | ISO vs RHP | wRC+ vs RHP | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$3,500 | $3,900 | MIN: K. Gibson- RHP | .307 | .156 | 105 | 5 | 5.25 |
Like teammate Cano, Seager is in another great spot tonight facing Kyle Gibson. Gibson has struggled mightily this season and is certainly prone to give up some gopher balls. Seager himself has been heating up and batting in the 3-5 spot should help him produce in several ways tonight.
The Mariners are projected for 5.25 runs scored tonight, and Seager has produced 7, 25 and 16 DraftKings points over his past three games.
Rickie Weeks Jr. (1B/OF), Tampa Bay Rays
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs LHP | ISO vs LHP | wRC+ vs LHP | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$2,000 | $2,600 | CHW: D. Holland- LHP | .302 | .099 | 98 | 7 | 5 |
Weeks is dirt cheap and to be honest he should be. He hasn't put up many good Fantasy nights over his last 10 games, but this should be a favorable matchup and Weeks can utilize his power every now and again. Tonight he is facing the lefty Derek Holland who is coming off an atrocious start in Detroit where he allowed 8 runs. He had been solid in his previous two starts, but Tampa's offense has been decent enough and Weeks Jr. can help you afford Harper, McCullers and the other bats above much easier. Just don't expect much, but it could be a big reward.
Good Luck everyone!
