Pitching Pulse: Daily Fantasy Baseball 5-30-15

Each day during MLB season will bring us some major price differences among starting pitchers on all sites. These price discrepancies and the site's roster differences can alter the way we use pitchers on each site, as well as how the field of opponents will use them. Listed below are four of today's top pitchers, each with their salary listed as well as a ratio that takes into account both the total salary cap on the site and the number of roster positions that need filling. We've also provided some betting info for you reference. The higher the ratio, the more you'll be able to spend elsewhere.

Tyson Ross

Not a tantalizing pitching slate for today's action, but Tyson Ross is the clear #1 option. Vegas has the Padres as a small favorite against the red hot Pirates offense, but they have a sizable advantage on the mound, opposing Pirates righty Charlie Morton. Ross can rack up the strike outs, to the tune of 26.6%, and can keep the ball on the ground all night with an impressive ground-ball rate of 64.1%. The walks are up a bit this year, but if he can avoid them I like his chances to pitch deep into this game. Start your cash game lineups with Ross and move on from there.

Michael Wacha

I've always been a big fan of Wacha's skill set, but today he is a strictly a GPP option for me, but a good one at that. Unfortunately, you can't, or maybe shouldn't, play him in cash games. He's facing a Dodgers lineup that is murdering right-handed pitching this year, leading baseball in wOBA and wRC+. The Cardinals are the biggest favorite on the board tonight, so the chance of getting a win is there when you're opposing Carlos Frias on the mound. It might not start today, but I believe Wacha's strikeout rate is only going to go up, so get on board before everyone else. The price is a bit high on Fantasy Feud, but reasonable on FanDuel and DraftKings.

Jesse Hahn

Hahn is my favorite value option tonight on all three sites. Josh Shepardson broke it down about as good as you can in today's "MLB Positional Analysis," and makes me feel even better about my stance on Hahn tonight. He will be facing a Yankees lineup that does hit righties decently, with a .323 wOBA, but are a much less imposing team than Wacha will face. Vegas has the A's as slight favorites, and Hahn is coming off a sublime complete game shutout of a very potent Tigers offense last weekend.

Yordano Ventura

Finally, we make it to Yordano Ventura who will be facing the Cubs in the friendly (today, anyway) confines of Wrigley Field. According to Daily Baseball Data, the wind will be blowing in severely today from center field. This is always something to keep an eye on at Wrigley, the only problem is it also says there is a very good chance of a rain out. If the game does play, I really like Ventura tonight. The Cubs strike out a league leading 25.9% of the time against right-handed pitching, and are in the bottom third of the MLB in wOBA against righties as well. Again, make sure you keep a close eye on the weather for any wind or rain updates.
