Getting Social with Ownership

The MLB Pulse is constructed to give daily fantasy enthusiasts insight to the most popular picks in a game slate, assessing their viability along the way. In other words, this column is designed to gauge the daily fantasy world's opinion as a whole. We will then take it a step further, telling you when to “join the herd" and when to pivot elsewhere.

Buzz is calculated on a 1-10 scale by considering numerous daily fantasy media outlets picks and general conversation on forums/twitter.

Buster Posey10

Marcus Semien6

-Buster Poesy faces a righty tonight, but considering it's Jason Marquis, it's hard not to see what everyone likes about him so much. Marquis is an equal-opportunity pitcher, as in he likes to give up home runs to players from both sides of the plate.

-Adrian Gonzalez continues to rake right through the league and despite Jimmy Rollins struggling mightiliy in front of him, his RBI numbers haven't suffered. He's done well against Butler already this season and makes for a strong play against any below-average righty like him. He's likely to be pretty heavily owned tonight, so that's his only real concern as you can get similar production from other first basemen in more unique situations.

-Josh Donaldson didn't get his usual price bump against a lefty again today and we saw what happened last Friday in that case. Spoiler: he hit a home run. He doesn't have the easy lefty matchup he had last week, but he and the Blue Jays in general have been crushing all lefties and Kuechel pitches to more contact than most stud pitchers.

-Dee Gordon continues to have really impressive batted ball success and is striking out at only an 11% clip for a guy who was well above that in his career prior to this season. He's hitting nearly .500 on balls in play, but with his speed, it doens't look likely to slow down any time soon.

-Marcus Semien playing shortstop is the only thing that really has him on this list tonight. There simply aren't many solid options as the postion tonight and he's facing a rookie lefty in Rondon. He's shown some nice power upside over the past few weeks and now has 6 home runs on the season, making him one of the few solid power plays at the position for GPPs.

Outfielders:

Mike Trout9
Joc Pederson8
Jacoby Ellsbury8
Ryan Raburn7

-Mike Trout is facing a weak lefty tonight and should be in great position for a massive game. The weather is very warm and there's a strong wind blowing out to left field, which means there should be some fireworks from this entire Angels lineup tonight which has been struggling around Trout to start the season.

-Joc Pederson has seen his price fall a bit suprisingly, but he's been rock solid almost everyday lately. He's a lefty facing a weak righty in Butler for the Rockies, which gives him some massive upside. The only concern here is his heavy ownership potential even in GPPs

-Jacoby Ellsbury has consistently been a top option over the past few weeks and for good reason. He's got some light power upside in matchups with weak righties like this, while also offering a great batting average and stolen base potential at the top of a lineup that continues to hit surprisingly well. Don't look now, but Ellsbury and Gardner may be the top 1-2 combination in all of baseball this season.

-Ryan Raburn is everyone's favorite cheap platoon guy today, as he's been absolutely decimating lefties this season. He's playing against every lefty and hitting pretty high in the lineup for an Indians team stacked with left-handed bats, but really short when it comes to quality right-handed ones. Raburn is dirt cheap and rock solid play in all formats.
