Pitcher
Stephen Strasburg (R), Nationals
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp | FIP | K% | GB% | Opp Run Total | Moneyline |
$10100 | $10000 | vs Marlins | 2.87 | 28.2% | 46.5% | 3 | -245 |
Strasburg has the best strikeout rate, moneyline, and opponent run total of any pitcher taking the bump tonight. He has strung together four straight quality outings, boosting his confidence even more. The Marlins have been a bottom five offense ever since losing their superstar Giancarlo Stanton, and Strasburg should mow through them in this matchup.
Catcher
Stephen Vogt (L), Athletics
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$2400 | $3800 | Webster - R | .342 | .179 | 98 | 5 | 4 |
Fresh off a 3-3, 1 homer, 3 RBI performance last night, Vogt could find decent upside again today. He has an excellent matchup against Allen Webster, who has allowed a 6.86 ERA in the majors this season (four starts), along with a whopping 8.37 ERA in 11 minor league starts. Needless to say the Athletics are a quality stack to consider today, also taking into account a nice park upgrade in Arizona.
First Base
Jose Abreu (R), White Sox
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs LHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs LHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs LHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$3900 | $5100 | Olmos - L | .396 | .237 | 153 | 3 | 4 |
Any time Jose Abreu takes on a left-handed pitcher at home, you need to take notice (just look at those splits vs southpaws). When that pitcher is a young spot-starter, that rationale builds even further. For that reason, Abreu is one of the top overall first basemen, regardless of price. The $3900 mark on FanDuel isn't too prohibitive either ... Joey Votto can be considered a great cash game play right alongside Abreu as well.
Second Base
Jason Kipnis (L), Indians
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$3600 | $4600 | Weaver - R | .356 | .147 | 117 | 1 | 3.5 |
Kipnis has been one of the most consistent hitters all season, and that sentiment hasn't changed following his recent DL stint. The salary level is still moderate considering Kipnis is a "top shelf" second baseman, and he'll face the mediocre pitching of Jered Weaver, who has allowed a .341 wOBA vs left-handed hitters this season.
Third Base
Adrian Beltre (R), Rangers
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$3400 | $4000 | M.Gonzalez - R | .350 | .163 | 140 | 4 | 4.5 |
Beltre is warming his way into a nice little hostreak, recording multi-hit games in four of the past seven. He has significant upside in today's draw against Miguel Gonzalez, who has shown homerun tendencies throughout his career. That has been the case as of late also, allowing six round-trippers in the past four games. Beltre has his power swing working, smacking two homers over the past four.
Shortstop
Jose Reyes (S), Rockies
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$3300 | $4200 | Morton - R | .328 | .113 | 111 | 1 | 3.5 |
Pittsburgh hurler Charlie Morton has been bad against left-handed hitters this season, allowing a .364 wOBA split this season. That leaves Colorado as a "sneaky stack" today, as majority of daily fantasy enthusiasts will avoid them away from home. Reyes is probably the most cash game worthy, as he's at a respectable salary level within a generally uninspiring shortstop player pool.
Outfield
J.D. Martinez (R), Tigers
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs LHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs LHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs LHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$3700 | $5000 | Buerhle - L | .360 | .234 | 108 | 5 | 4 |
This is more of a FanDuel recommendation than DraftKings, as Martinez's salary is much more appealing over there. He has a nice righty/lefty matchup against Mark Buerhle, and the park shift to Toronto is just icing on the cake to capture his power upside.
Jacoby Ellsbury (L), Yankees
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$3200 | $3900 | Bauer - R | .338 | .142 | 109 | 1 | 3.5 |
Ellsbury and Gardner are still under-priced, and I'm siding with Ellsbury (better overall talent) when deciding between the two. Julio Teheran has allowed a .376 wOBA split against left-handed hitters this season, which is one of the worst splits among qualified pitchers in action today. In addition, Atlanta catcher A.J. Pierzynski is one of the worst at throwing out base-runners, giving Ellsbury some stolen base upside as well.
Josh Reddick (L), Athletics
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$2500 | $4300 | Webster - R | .344 | .192 | 114 | 3 | 4 |
This is pretty much a FanDuel only recommendation, as his salary is unusually high on DraftKings. Reddick will be batting third for an Athletics lineup that could be sneaky good today. As mentioned in the Stephen Vogt write-up earlier, Diamonbacks pitcher Allen Webster is definitely one to pick on, and Reddick still holds upside from Oakland's 3-hole. The park shift in Arizona helps his cause as well.
