Cash Game Locks: MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball

Cash games typically reward high floor rosters. You don't need to score 60 points on FanDuel or 160 on DraftKings to win money. Instead you should aim for a nice base of around 40 and 120 points respectively. Our MLB Cash Game Picks will highlight the top pick and a value pick at each position for both platforms.

Max Scherzer against Philly is a lock tonight, and use him as you please. I want to dive into a few other solid choices in pitching. Zack Greinke has everything in his favor, matchup, Vegas line, and a decent price tag. The Padres over the last two weeks have just an 88 wRC+, and are striking out at a 24.3% rate. He is the second highest favorite tonight, and has been dominant this season. He has a 1.52 ERA and has not pitched less than six innings this season in a start.

I really like Gerrit Cole's DraftKings price. He is a favorite at home tonight, which PNC Park is one of the best pitcher's parks in the game. Cole ranks top 10 in FIP among qualified starters, and he is 12th in strikeout percentage. He has a healthy groundball rate and has taken that next step that everyone thought he would. The Mets have an abysmal 78 wRC+ against right-handed pitching this season and strikeout at a 19.6% clip, which is about the league average.

Giants-Rockies in Coors tonight featuring two of the biggest DFS target pitchers in the game. This should be a slugfest. I am much more in favor of the Giants offense, just given what happened this past series against the Phillies for these Colorado bats. Buster Posey is your top hitting catcher, and although we usually don't spend on catchers, Posey in Coors is a different story. Right-handed bats have hit seven homers off Kyle Kendrick this season already, and he has allowed a .472 wOBA at home.

Yankee Stadium and Colby Lewis creates an excellent matchup for the Yankees' bats. Without Jacoby Ellsbury, Brian McCann slides up into the cleanup spot, which should provide him with plenty of chances to drive in runs. Lewis is allowing a .331 wOBA against lefties this season, and in 2014, allowed a .373 wOBA. McCann has a .341 ISO at home this season, compared to just a .088 on the road. Since joining the Yankees, 23 of his 27 home runs have been at home, which makes sense with the short porch out there. I love his price, a great guy to chase tonight for a home run.

Brandon Belt is my favorite play on the day, and his FanDuel price is excellent. He was hitting above .300 before that Cincinnati series, with no home runs against right-handed pitching. That all changed as he launched three into the seats. When Belt gets out of AT&T Park, he is an excellent option night in and night out. Kendrick has struggled all his career against left-handed bats, allowing a .358 wOBA.

$4,600$4,900Mike Leake - R.348.15112414

After Mike Leake's last start, we saw a mirror image of what he was like in 2014. He allowed a .352 wOBA and had a 4.31 FIP. This season, he has allowed seven home runs to lefties and a .336 wOBA. His 5.70 FIP against lefties makes the Indians a great target tonight. Progressive Field had a 109 park factor for left-handed home runs in 2014. Jason Kipnis is red-hot hitting over .400 against right-handed pitching this season.

Joe Panik is your Coors value play. He will likely be in the two spot and gets that great matchup against Kendrick. He has a 117 wRC+ against right-handed pitching this season, and in a predicted high scoring affair, he should be a great source of points.

The numbers are down for Troy Tulowitzki this year, and so is his price for what it should be. He takes on Ryan Vogelsong, who is awful on the road, and this is Coors we are talking about. He has held right-handed bats to just a .215 average overall, but .283 on the road. A typical Troy Tulowitzki game can turn him into a value pick tonight.

$2,800$4,000Marco Estrada - R.331.18211324

Shortstop is a position to look for value, and Brad Miller has been giving that to us for most this season. He has thrived in the two spot, hitting .343 there, and it is a better source for fantasy points compared to where he was hitting before. He has a .266 ISO this season off right-handed pitching, which maybe he could spare some towards Robinson Cano. Over the last three seasons, these are steady numbers against right-handed pitching. Marco Estrada has allowed a 1.45 HR/9 to lefties in his career.

The floodgates were opened when that first homer was out of the way. He is on pace for 20 home runs and over 100 RBI this season. With his consistency in bringing in fantasy points, he has to be an option each night right now. Josh Collmenter does not miss many bats, and he has allowed a 2.14 HR/9 to right-handed bats. Arizona is a great place to hit, especially compared to Petco, but Bryant homered there, so whatever.

The Coors game doesn't create exciting options at third base, other than a struggling Nolan Arenado. I am looking for some value tonight here. Eric Stults is now starting instead of Alex Wood, which is an even better matchup for the Brewers as a whole. Although not carrying the trend of the numbers above into this season, Aramis Ramirez still has a proven track record against left-handed pitching. He will allow you to roster some of those bigger bats tonight.

Michael Brantley is one of the top Cleveland bats to get some exposure against Leake. He has an 8% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching and is as consistent as they come. He hits for power and is a threat to steal as well. Outside of the Coors game, I am a big fan of this Indians offense.

This is really a spot for the Giants' outfield as a whole, but Angel Pagan headlines the trio. Not too highly priced for a three-hole hitter, and on FanDuel, he is a must play. He has a .383 wOBA on the road this season, and like many of the Giants' bats, they thrive on the road. Feel free to use Nori Aoki and Hunter Pence as well. Pence has not missed a beat since returning from his injury.

$2,800$4,100Colby Lewis - R.354.19812624

You are probably expecting some Rockies' outfielders, but I want to diversify a little here. Charlie Blackmon and Carlos Gonzalez are great plays in cash games, but salary caps only allow so many players from that game. Carlos Beltran has been picking it up this month, hitting over .300 with two home runs. Yankee Stadium had a 117 park factor for home runs to lefties in 2014, which was just behind Coors' 118 park factor. He is hitting second in the order now with Ellsbury on the DL, which enhances his value even more.

Brad Miller leading off now. Sign me up! Nice call on Beltran as well.

I love how you mention Scherzer as the obvious play but highlighted my second and third favorite cash games picks at SP. Good stuff, Jason.

Colby Lewis is a gascan, will definitely pick on him tonight. Love the Aramis call
