Cash Game Locks: MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball
Cash games typically reward high floor rosters. You don't need to score 60 points on FanDuel or 160 on DraftKings to win money. Instead you should aim for a nice base of around 40 and 120 points respectively. Our MLB Cash Game Picks will highlight the top pick and a value pick at each position for both platforms.
Pitcher
Clayton Kershaw (L), Dodgers
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opponent | Park Factors | FIP | K% | GB% | Vegas Team Run Total & Line |
$11,700 | $12,400 | Cardinals | Basic 96, HR 102 | 2.67 | 30.5 | 51.1 | 3 - LAD -205 |
David Price is the odd man out tonight. His matchup is a great one, but his strikeout rate has been mediocre this season, while his ground-ball rate is at 35%. I just rather go with Clayton Kershaw and King Felix if they are in the same price range, which they are. The Cardinals rank 16th in wRC+ against left-handed pitching, and eighth in strikeout rate. His price on FanDuel is one that is not easy to fade, while on DraftKings the extra thousand saved from going with Hernandez is understandable. Don't overthink it tonight and pay up for the best pitcher in the game.
Felix Hernandez (R), Mariners
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opponent | Park Factors | FIP | K% | GB% | Vegas Team Run Total & Line |
$11,800 | $11,500 | Rays | Basic 97, HR 98 | 3.46 | 25.8 | 61.4 | 3 - SEA -180 |
Felix Hernandez burned a lot of people in his last start, and that will not be the case this time out. He takes on the Rays at home, a team which he just threw a complete game shutout against two starts ago. They have a league average offense against right-handed pitching, even though they rank in the middle, they do not pose any threat to King Felix. He is registering a 10.9% swinging strike rate, and has a healthy ground-ball rate. According to FanGraphs, he is 11th in the league, with a hard hit ball rate of 23.4%.
Catcher
Jarrod Saltalamacchia (S), Diamondbacks
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$2,400 | $3,800 | Bartolo Colon - R | .338 | .213 | 111 | 7 | 4 |
When Jarrod Saltalamacchia headlines the catcher position, you can probably tell what kind of selection we are dealing with for the slate. Over the last three seasons, as a whole, Salty has surprisingly good numbers against right-handed pitching. The move to Arizona gives him a boost,.Chase Field, over the last three seasons, has a 116 park factor for left-handed home runs. Bartolo Colon has allowed a .357 wOBA to left-handed bats this season, and only has a 33% ground-ball rate. A good matchup in a hitter's environment will have me taking Salty tonight.
First Base
Miguel Cabrera (R), Tigers
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs LHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs LHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs LHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$4,900 | $5,200 | John Danks - L | .423 | .245 | 172 | 3 | 4 |
The Tigers will take on another lefty tonight, and a far less skilled one I might add. John Danks is allowing a .402 wOBA this season, and he's coming off 2014 where he allowed a .355 wOBA. Over his career, he has allowed a 1.25 HR/9 against right-handed hitting. I doubt he will throw another complete game shutout, so I will be loading up from the right side in this game. Miguel Cabrera ranks eighth in wOBA off left-handed pitching this season, which is not a shocker given his numbers above.
Albert Pujols (R), Angels
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$3,800 | $5,100 | Adam Warren - R | .352 | .206 | 130 | 3 | 3.5 |
Albert Pujols has returned to being "The Machine" over the last week or so. He has six home runs in the last seven games and is in Yankee Stadium tonight. The Angels' bats are more productive on the road since Angel Stadium suppresses offense. Yankee Stadium is the complete opposite. The short porch gets all the excitement, but Yankee Stadium holds a 118 park factor for right-handed home runs in the last three seasons. Adam Warren has a 4.84 FIP against right-handed bats with a 42% ground-ball rate. Pujols has done all his damage off right-handed pitching this season, hitting .290 with 12 HR.
Second Base
Ian Kinsler (R), Tigers
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs LHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs LHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs LHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$3,400 | $4,200 | John Danks - L | .361 | .155 | 127 | 2 | 4 |
The numbers for Ian Kinsler this season don't matchup with the numbers above, but batted ball stats suggest he has been unlucky. He has a 27.5% line drive rate, with a 35% hard hit ball rate. He also has a low strikeout rate of 11.8%. Everyone has made a big deal of Kinsler's power numbers, but this is a matchup that can get the power going. U.S. Cellular has a 117 park factor for right-handed home runs in the last three seasons.
Neil Walker (S), Pirates
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$2,700 | $3,300 | Julio Teheran - R | .355 | .194 | 128 | 5 | 3.5 |
I am not the biggest Julio Teheran fan, and would I not be surprised if the Pirates teed off on him today. That is more of a GPP move though. Neil Walker, on the other hand, is a cash game risk to take, given the selection of the position, and price. Teheran has allowed a .343 wOBA to left-handed bats over his career and carries a 1.33 HR/9. Teheran is a big time fly-ball pitcher, which leads me to chasing the long ball from Walker. Walker has great power numbers for a second baseman.
Shortstop
Erick Aybar (S), Angels
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$2,700 | $3,900 | Adam Warren - R | .303 | .098 | 96 | 1 | 3.5 |
Erick Aybar hitting leadoff gives him a better value than where he was before, hitting fifth or sixth. He is at a price where if he has an average game he works out. There is not a shortstop with major upside tonight, and I like taking lefties in Yankee Stadium. With Jhonny Peralta facing Clayton Kershaw, you will want to pay down at this position. Jung-Ho Kang and Andrelton Simmons are other options even cheaper.
Third Base
Kyle Seager (L), Mariners
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$3,200 | $4,300 | Alex Colome - R | .354 | .185 | 130 | 5 | 3.5 |
Alex Colome has a 4.15 FIP through 177 lefties faced in his career, and has allowed a 27% line drive rate. Kyle Seager is at a really nice price tonight, and gives you the opportunity to get some pop in a lineup with Kershaw. Seager has cut down his strikeout rate this season by 3%, and has a higher ISO than last season. He is hitting .321 with four homers over the last two weeks and is one of the few Mariners bats that is hitting.
Ruben Tejada (R), Mets | |||||||
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$2,800 | $3,200 | Chase Anderson - R | .279 | .070 | 78 | 2 | 4 |
Ruben Tejada has been a very consistent bat over the last week, and he has been moved into the two spot. He is hitting .483 over the last seven days, and Chase Anderson is not an overpowering matchup. Tejada has hit right-handed pitching well this season, with a .365 wOBA, and a 136 wRC+. In a night where you need some value, Tejada highlights the cheaper plays.
Outfield
Kole Calhoun (L), Angels
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$2,600 | $4,400 | Adam Warren - R | .335 | .174 | 119 | 4 | 3.5 |
Yankee Stadium will meet Kole Calhoun again tonight, and he will enjoy that 143 park factor for left-handed home runs. He has a 24% line drive rate against right-handed pitching this season, and is a tremendous bargain on FanDuel again tonight. With Kershaw and Hernandez going tonight, Calhoun is a top tier option, without the top tier price.
Rajai Davis (R), Tigers
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs LHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs LHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs LHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$3,000 | $5,000 | John Danks - L | .361 | .155 | 138 | 1 | 4 |
Rajai Davis is one that headlines a trio of Tigers' outfielders tonight, who are all efficient bats against lefties. Davis' price on DraftKings will make me consider Yoenis Cespedes and J.D. Martinez, who are cheaper. Davis has a .376 wOBA off lefties this season, so the continued success is here this season. Danks has really struggled against right-handed bats, and Detroit adds three outfield bats to the cash game plays.
Ender Inciarte (L), Diamondbacks
FanDuel Salary | DraftKings Salary | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Vegas Team Run Total |
$3,100 | $3,700 | Bartolo Colon - R | .309 | .102 | 91 | 1 | 4 |
The Diamondbacks are in a good spot tonight, and Ender Inciarte is a solid cash game play. He has eight stolen bases this season, so he has the stolen base threat in his game. He is a low strikeout guy, but his walk rate is a little disappointing for a leadoff hitter. Colon's time is starting to run out. After a successful April, and half of May, he has allowed 23 ER in his last five starts.
