Pitcher
Madison Bumgarner (L), Giants
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp | FIP | K% | GB% | Opp Run Total | Moneyline |
$11,900 | $11,100 | Phillies | 3.22 | 25% | 40.4% | 3 | -168 |
The Phillies are coming off a stretch of facing Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke, now they head up the coast to face Madison Bumgarner. Talk about a tough stretch. Bumgarner had a tough outing against the Nationals in his last start, and I expect him to bounce back against one of the league's worst offenses. He has a 2.49 ERA at home, as he genuinely enjoys AT&T Park as any pitcher would. He has a 12.1% swinging strike rate, which is up 2% from his career average. There are a ton of aces on the mound tonight, but Bumgarner is the one I am most comfortable with.
Noah Syndergaard (R), Mets
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp | FIP | K% | GB% | Opp Run Total | Moneyline |
$8,400 | $8,200 | Diamondbacks | 2.89 | 24.2% | 46.1% | 3 | -144 |
Looking down a tier for pricing, Noah Syndergaard has been pitching really well this season. He dueled with Clayton Kershaw in his last start and really matched him fairly well. He has a 1.89 ERA at home this season, and Citi Field suppresses runs from both sides of the plate. The Arizona offense falls around the league average against right-handed pitching in most categories. With Vegas on Syndergaard's side, so am I tonight. He has a healthy swinging strike rate, and the 2.89 FIP is sixth among tonight's starters. He makes an excellent SP2.
Catcher
Derek Norris (R), Padres
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs LHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs LHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs LHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$2,400 | $3,700 | Wandy Rodriguez - L | .368 | .187 | 139 | 1 | 4 |
While Derek Norris has been sluggish since his hot start, he still has a great track record against left-handed pitching. Hitting leadoff over the last few days is an odd move for the Padres, but I will take it here. Wandy Rodriguez has been up and down over his career, and this season is allowing a .321 wOBA to right-handed bats. Rodriguez has also been poor at home, allowing a .382 wOBA. Yasmani Grandal is another honorable mention behind the dish against Jimmy Nelson tonight.
First Base
Prince Fielder (L), Rangers
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$3,500 | $4,700 | Ian Kennedy - R | .392 | .196 | 148 | 3 | 4.5 |
Prince Fielder is looking healthy and back to his old self this season. Ian Kennedy has allowed a .346 wOBA to left-handed bats this season and a 1.88 HR/9. He has a .435 wOBA off right-handed pitching this season with a 39% hard hit ball rate. With Kennedy throwing beach balls to hitters this season, expect a big game from Fielder. Our DFC writer, Josh Shepardson, touted him as his "dong of the day," and I am in complete agreement.
Second Base
Dee Gordon (L), Marlins
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$3,100 | $4,800 | Mike Leake - R | .306 | .082 | 95 | 1 | 3.5 |
While Dee Gordon has a hefty price tag on DraftKings, he is an absolute steal on FanDuel, pun intended. His speed creates a safe floor as well as a decent ceiling for a second baseman. We saw him steal three bags last night and was even thrown out once, if you can believe it. He will face another pitch to contact pitcher, and while Mike Leake is a better right-handed pitcher than Michael Lorenzen, he is nothing to scare me off Gordon. On DraftKings, if you are looking for a cheaper second baseman, head to Coors, Jace Peterson is a solid $4,000.
Third Base
Josh Donaldson (R), Blue Jays
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs LHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs LHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs LHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$5,100 | $4,800 | Danny Duffy - L | .418 | .303 | 172 | 2 | 4 |
The lefty-masher, Josh Donaldson, strikes again. Danny Duffy has been awful this season, allowing a .367 wOBA to right-handed bats with a ridiculous 29% line drive rate. The Jays bats are all in play tonight, but Donaldson highlights them all. He has a .461 wOBA off left-handed pitching with a 43.6% hard hit ball rate. If you are looking for a cheaper option, Danny Valencia owns a .372 wOBA off left-handed pitching in his career.
Shortstop
Troy Tulowitzki (R), Rockies
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$4,300 | $4,700 | Shelby Miller - R | .386 | .204 | 131 | 3 | 5 |
Troy Tulowitzki comes in yet again slightly under priced for what he usually is, and while he takes on a tougher matchup than last night, he is still a top shortstop option. He has a 40% hard hit ball rate off right-handed pitching. Miller has been a tough guy to pick on this season, but Coors is just a different animal, and these bats all come alive here.
Outfield
Carlos Gonzalez (L), Rockies
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$3,800 | $4,300 | Shelby Miller - R | .389 | .255 | 132 | 4-5 | 5 |
In yesterday's long rain delay, Carlos Gonzalez lucked out not seeing the lefty Alex Wood. Instead he doubled three times off right-handed pitching, and is now hitting .367 so far in July. He had a strong June, with a .363 wOBA, and is showing he is still the same solid hitter he has always been. He has a .365 wOBA off right-handed pitching this season, and Miller has allowed a 24% line drive rate to left-handed bats this season.
Shin-Soo Choo (L), Rangers
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs RHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs RHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs RHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$2,600 | $4,300 | Ian Kennedy - R | .391 | .198 | 150 | 2 | 4.5 |
Shin-Soo Choo has an excellent price on FanDuel tonight, and can really round out a balanced outfield on DraftKings. He will have the same juicy matchup as Fielder, and Choo has been hitting well off right-handed pitching this year. He has a .371 wOBA with a 35.3% hard hit ball rate. Choo has heavy home/away splits this season, with a .363 wOBA at home, and a .280 wOBA on the road. Thankfully he will be home this evening.
Adam Jones (R), Orioles
FanDuel | DraftKings | Opp Pitcher & Handedness | wOBA vs LHP 2012-2015 | ISO vs LHP 2012-2015 | wRC+ vs LHP 2012-2015 | Batting Order | Team Run Total |
$3,300 | $3,900 | Gio Gonzalez - L | .363 | .201 | 130 | 3 | 4 |
It has been an up and down season for Adam Jones, but his track record against left-handed pitching is among some of the best. He has a .388 wOBA off lefties this year with a .224 ISO. Gio Gonzalez has allowed a .339 wOBA to right-handed bats this season, and Jones is back in Camden Yards, which has had a 104 park factor for right-handed homers in the last three seasons. Matt Kemp is another outfield tout tonight as well.
