MLB GPP Tournament Picks: 6-3-17

The purpose of this column is to highlight some players with upside and well-suited for tournaments. While the majority of the hitter picks will likely have power upside, that's not necessarily the case for all the listed options. Other contextual factors such as batting order, ballpark, opposing pitcher, price, speed, etc also come into play, and you'll see these items sprinkled into the write-ups below. Along with that, we'll be gauging the ownership levels, giving you some plausible pivots from the popular choices in a given game slate.

Top GPP Pitcher

With all of the top offenses I want to pay up for, I don't see myself going to Santana and McCullers on DK at least. Matt Shoemaker is the guy I want. Shoemaker over his career, has been significantly better at home. The Twins bats have been hot lately, so most people won't go Shoemaker in tourneys. I'm looking to gain an edge there, and have a lot of GPP exposure. Tons of upside and K potential for Shoemaker tonight.

Top GPP Hitters

George Springer is super expensive tonight, and that's my favorite time to target him. He'll be faded by most on DK at $5,500, and with Altuve and Correa both over $5k, I see the Astros stack being a little lower owned on DK. It's completely chalk on FD, but it's hard to fade them in this matchup. Cashner is due for a blow-up spot, and the Astros should do that tonight, with Springer being a big part of it.

I'm all in on the Mets tonight, and Bruce is a huge reason why. Glasnow has a tough time against lefties, and gives up a ton of hard-contact to opposing left-handed hitters. Bruce always has tons of upside, and he seems to make my GPP teams a lot. His 2-HR potential always intrigues me, and I find myself having him a lot tonight. Love Bruce for GPP's and cash tonight.

If you're looking to go a little different with your Houston stacks, or want a catcher with a lot of upside on this slate, Brian McCann is your guy. McCann gets a great ballpark tonight, with a below-average pitcher on the mound, and a reasonable price tag. I really want him in my Houston stacks tonight, and will have him as a one-off in other stacks. Catcher is hard to get right, so I'm looking toward the best one tonight in GPP's.
