2016 Tight End Snap Counts Week 17
Dion Sims and Charles Clay played the most snaps in terms of percentage this week, yet were hardly targeted in their games. It was a big Zach Ertz week, who played 92% of the snaps, and was targeted on 23% of them. CJ Uzomah, Jesse James, Levine Toilolo, and Garrett Celek were some fill-in options for guys resting or injured this week. Coby Fleener saw his largest snap count in some time, playing 70% of the team snaps. With the season over for New Orleans, we don't have to do the Fleener dance anymore. Jordan Reed and Greg Olsen played below 70% of the snaps, and were dealing with some injuries before the week even started.

2016 Tight End Snap Counts Week 16
Tyler Eifert was ruled out, and is also done for the season. CJ Uzomah played 97% of the team snaps for Cincinnati. Jordan Reed was out this week, but it was a disappointing fantasy day for Vernon Davis. Clive Walford played 84% of the team snaps, which was the highest in quite some time. Greg Olsen was battling an in-game injury this week, playing just 58% of the team snaps. CJ Fiedorowicz played 67% of the snaps, after returning from a concussion. Coby Fleener's season will be done soon, but it was another week of playing low snaps, seeing just 30.

2016 Tight End Snap Counts Week 15
Jimmy Graham played a light 62% of the snaps this week, which is a bit odd given his snaps of late. They have been trending downwards here over the last few weeks. Jack Doyle played 73% of the snaps for Indy, which was high due to the Donte Moncrief injury. Antonio Gates played 66% of the snaps, and Hunter Henry played 53%. With C.J. Fiedorowicz out injured, Ryan Grif-fin who has been seeing time in Houston anyway, played 79% of the team snaps. Ladarius Green played 57% of the team snaps for Pittsburgh, which is a bump up from the last few weeks.

2016 Tight End Snap Counts Week 14
Even with Josh Hill being down for the year, Coby Fleener played just 69% of the snaps, which ranked 18th among tight ends. Greg Olsen, Dion Sims, and Jason Witten played the full amount of snaps this week. Jack Doyle played a decent 61%, and would pickup in targets if Donte Moncrief sits out. Jimmy Graham was disappointing this week, playing just 58% of the snaps. Seattle was rolled over from the start, so probably not much to put into this one. Zach Ertz, Tyler Eifert, and Cameron Brate are a couple of high volume targets playing over 80% of the team snaps.

2016 Tight End Snap Counts Week 13
Dennis Pitta and Ladarius Green played 48 and 47 percent of their team snaps this week, yet were two of the highest scoring tight ends. While I don't think we can expect a big jump in snaps for Green, he is certainly involved in the offense, that's for sure. Greg Olsen and Jason Witten played their usual 100% of the snaps, while Vernon Davis nearly did the same filling in for the injured Jordan Reed. Vance McDonald played 91% of the snaps this week, yet was targeted on just 8%. With Rob Gronkowski out, we saw Martellus Bennett play 68% of the snaps, as New England went to a lot of the smaller wideouts in a quick passing game.

2016 Tight End Snap Counts Week 12
Dion Sims, Greg Olsen, and Jason Witten played 100% of their team snaps, which is nothing new to these names. The difference is that Witten and Olsen are targeted far more often. Jermaine Gresham is being used much more of late, and played 94% of the snaps. This is a trend we might see continue. Will Tye had a lock on the Giants starting tight end role, playing 88% of the snaps. New Orleans continues to leave Coby Fleener on the sidelines for most of their snaps, as Josh Hill logged 78%. This is concerning, despite Fleener's production. Vance McDonald played 73% of the team snaps this week, and was targeted on 14%.

2016 Tight End Snap Counts Week 11
A few tight end injuries this week to talk about, as Zach Miller went down with a season ending one. He played just 45% of the snaps. Logan Paulsen picked up the rest. Rob Gronkowski was out, which led to Martellus Bennett playing 96% of the snaps. He was targeted just 3% of his snaps. The Saints continue to split time between Josh Hill and Coby Fleener. Fleener played two less snaps than Hill this week against Carolina. Indy moved to more two tight end sets with a healthy Dwayne Allen. Both him and Jack Doyle combined for 90 snaps.

2016 Tight End Snap Counts Week 10
Delanie Walker was your top scoring tight end of the week, and he played 82% of Tennessee's snaps. This is a good sign for him, given how up and down the snaps have been this season. Washington used Vernon Davis quite a bit this week, playing 34 snaps. This was a little over half the team snaps. Jordan Reed was at 79%. Coby Fleener's snaps have fluctuated quite a bit over the last few weeks, and he played his highest in quite some time (32). Hunter Henry played a bit this week, but it was still Antonio Gates who saw 75% of the snaps, and found the end zone.

2016 Tight End Snap Counts Week 9
Big Clive Walford played 74 snaps this week, which was 84% of the Raiders snaps. Jason Wit-ten continuously plays ahead of most tight ends on a weekly basis, and played 70. With Hunter Henry out, Antonio Gates played 83% of the team snaps. This has been the most he has played this year. Lance Kendricks continues to see a larger role in the passing game, and played 79% of the team snaps. With Jacob Tamme out this week, Austin Hooper came in and played 55 snaps. This would be the case going forward. Even with a full healthy squad, Jack Doyle played 50 snaps, which was six more than Dwayne Allen.

2016 Tight End Snap Counts Week 8
Jason Witten, Tyler Eifert, and Jordan Reed all saw over 70 snaps this week. Two were in the overtime game, and it shows how much also that the Oakland Raiders don't use tight ends all that much. Clive Walford saw 59 snaps. Antonio Gates saw 68% of the snaps this week, which is an upwards tick from previous weeks. This had somewhat to do with the face Hunter Henry wasn't 100%. Jack Doyle wasn't a factor against the Chiefs, but did see 79% of the snaps still. He will still be threat as long as Dwayne Allen is out. Coby Fleener saw just 26 snaps this week to Josh Hill's 61 snaps. Fleener needs to be kept an eye on, as this is not a good number.

2016 Tight End Snap Counts Week 7
Rob Gronkowski played 91% of the snaps this week, and was targeted on just 8% of them. He made work of those targets, going for over 100 receiving yards and a touchdown. Delanie Walker was back in the range of norm for targets, playing 74% of them this week. He was one of the more productive tight ends of Week 8. The Dwayne Allen injury forced Jack Doyle into a larger role, playing 93% of the snaps. This should be a reoccurring thing as long as Allen is out. The matchup against the Chiefs is a tough one, however. Erik Swoope also saw a lot of looks being a second tight end. Julius Thomas had his first plus week in quite some time, seeing 81% of the snaps. He looked healthy and even found the end zone. Jordan Reed being out led to more Vernon Davis, who played 71 snaps. Hunter Henry went down against Atlanta, and given he has been splitting time with Antonio Gates, this is not a given for Gates to shoot up the snap count chart. He played just 51% of the snaps this week, and has not been used in the middle of the field all that often. Coby Fleener might have been subject to a tough matchup, but he played just 58% of the snaps this week.

2016 Tight End Snap Counts Week 6
When you are in comeback mode on the road against New Orleans, you can imagine that Greg Olsen is going to get a ton of snaps. He saw 10 more than the next tight end on the week. Jordan Reed was out, and Vernon Davis played 72 snaps this week. This is a huge number for him given he has been a backup for most of the last year or two. Gary Barnidge and Jason Witten logged hefty snaps, but this has become a weekly thing. With Dwayne Allen banged up, we will see some Jack Doyle in Indy lining up quite a bit. Jimmy Graham was a back in action after a bye week, and he played 96% of the snaps. He had nine targets and we can safely say that he is back to being a top tight end. Rob Gronkowski also saw 89% of the snaps, as we were dealing with a hobbled Gronk over the last few weeks. Believe it or not, Zach Ertz and Travis Kelce were on the field this week. Both played around 87% of their snaps, yet were targeted less than five times a piece. A bit odd, and also a bit concerning for guys we expected to be fantasy relevant.

2016 Tight End Snap Counts Week 5
After Martellus Bennett looked like he was heading out of the game, he played 69% of the snaps, and also scored three touchdowns. Antonio Gates might be running out of time here. While both him and Henry scored a touchdown, Henry played 82% of the snaps to Gates' 35%. Gates has only been really used in the red zone this season, so his ceiling is really capped. Jason Witten once again played the full workload, who is just a lock for 100% of the snaps each week. The weekly check in with Gary Barnidge is here, as he is blocking on most of his 97% snap count. Jesse James was out there 95% of the snaps yet again, and even caught a touchdown. Rob Gronkowski is a big name who was back out playing a healthy amount of snaps. He saw 81%, and looked healthy with Tom Brady back under center. Delanie Walker's snaps were down again, playing just 58%. A little odd, but that hamstring might not be quite right yet. Zach Miller continues to be a go-to guy for Brian Hoyer, and despite the questionable tag, he played 86% of the snaps this week. Miller continues to go undervalued.

2016 Tight End Snap Counts Week 4
With Antonio Gates out of action for a little bit, Hunter Henry continues to dominate snaps. He played 68 snaps this week, which was 97% of the team's. Gary Barnidge and Jason Witten were both up in snap percentage again. Barnidge was targeted 10% of them, which was up from the prior weeks. He still hasn't had any indication of looking like a receiving threat. Lance Kendricks and Dion Sims were some other names that played over 90% of the snaps, but have very little fantasy relevance. Charles Clay and Cameron Brate both will get a bump with their advancements within the team. Clay might also see a bit more targets with Watkins out. Jack Doyle took a bit of a backwards step against Jacksonville this week, playing 51% of the snaps. Clive Walford going down, will increase some shares for other wideouts. It was pretty clear Delanie Walker wasn't healthy, playing 53% of the snaps on Sunday. Keep an eye on his practices throughout the week, as we might see him limited again. Jimmy Graham had back-to-back 100-yard games, and played 67% of the snaps this week. Graham was targeted in 20% of his snaps, which bodes well if he isn't playing near 80%.

2016 Tight End Snap Counts Week 3
Once again Gary Barnidge tops the charts for snaps among tight ends, but overall this is completely misleading. He is only being targeted 7% of those snaps, and this is a completely different scenario from 2015 Gary Barnidge. With the release of ASJ in Tampa Bay, Cameron Brate played 85 snaps for Tampa, and was targeted 12% of the time. He was one of the higher scoring tight ends in Week 3. Jared Cook was injured in Week 3, which led to some Richard Rodgers snaps. Kyle Rudolph is still being heavily targeted in Minnesota. He was targeted in 18% of the snaps, which was the highest for any tight end who played over 50 snaps. Jimmy Graham was also looking like his old self this weekend, and was targeted 18% of his snaps as well. He played 67% as he is still working his way back from injury. This is a good sign from Graham, and for Seattle. With the Donte Moncrief out, Jack Doyle played 75% of the team snaps for Indy. They ran a ton of two-tight end sets, which will result into a better role for Doyle. Dwayne Allen also played 83% of the team snaps, pretty much as expected.

2016 Tight End Snap Counts Week 2
Only three tight ends played 100% of their team's snaps in Week 2 — Jason Witten, Martellus Bennett, and Jesse James. Now tight end snap counts are going to be high for most because they are there for blocking and receiving. Target percentage is important if you are looking for fantasy production. Sorting by target percentage, three of the top five had over 10 fantasy points. CJ Uzomah and Xavier Grimble were the ones that skewed things a bit. Coby Fleener had one of the worst weeks of any tight end, being targeted 17% of the time, yet scored three fantasy points. We saw Jacob Tamme and Jordan Cameron take advantage of their target share. Vance McDonald played 59% of the snaps, yet was the fourth highest scoring tight end this week. This had a lot to do with a 70-yard catch in garbage time. Keep firing away at those tight ends that load up on team's snaps. This is how you get a more consistent approach. The one name that stood out to me this week was Dennis Pitta. He was targeted 27% of his targets, and played 60% of the snaps. He is never going to play a monster workload given his injury history, but if he is getting those types of targets, he will be relevant.

2016 Tight End Snap Counts Week 1
Tight ends are usually on the field at a heavy rate, due to blocking and receiving. This can be a bit misleading. For example — Gary Barnidge played 98% of the snaps, but was only targeted on 4% of the team's. Not a good number, but with Josh McCown now under center, this should change. Jordan Reed played 83% of the team's snaps on Monday night, and is going to be the focal point of this passing game. If Jason Witten continues to be Dak Prescott's safety blanket, expect him to be on the field over 98% of the time. In week 1, he played every single snap.

Snaps can be deceiving with tight ends because it's very dependent on if they're running routes or not, but much like the rest of the positions, if the player is consistently on the field, he has the trust of the team and is likely a solid contributor.
Jason Witten is once again at the top, he played the highest percentage of team snaps in 2015. Only three tight ends played 90 percent or more of their teams snaps, and they're familiar names. Travis Kelce and Greg Olsen joined Witten in that category. 14 Tight ends played more than 70 percent of their team's snaps. Again, that's a byproduct of either being a blocking specialist or passing down specialist. 20 players fall in the 50 to 70 percent cohort, and they represent prominent passing down players, for the most part. Players like Jared Cook, Delanie Walker, Coby Fleener and Zach Ertz play primarily passing downs and while the percentages don't look promising, they're rarely in on run plays.
It's also worth noting that young tight ends progress slowly, and that's normally represented in snap share. Players like Vance McDonald, Maxx Williams and Austin Seferian Jenkins were below 50 percent in team snaps, but that doesn't represent them not coming to fruition, it's simply par for the course in terms of tight end development.
It's worth noting that tight end production in the passing game is on the rise, and that with the extinction of the fullback position, teams want more versatile tight ends that can provide multiple duties. This has become obvious with teams willingness to shift to a lot more two tight end sets, and potentially featuring two tight ends in some type of capacity. Eight tight ends has above 800 receiving yards in 2015, which is the most since 2000.
