2016 Carolina Panthers Outlook
Cam Newton should once against be a top fantasy football option, as his ability in the run game sets him apart from most of the other top fantasy quarterbacks. Newton has ran for at least five touchdowns and 500 plus rushing yards in every season of his career. While his 35 passing touchdowns isn't in Newton's highest range of outcomes in 2016, he does have a solid shot at getting around 30. Barring an injury, Newton should be a top 3 to 5 quarterback option.
Jonathan Stewart never truly became what most hoped after his 1,133 rushing yards and ten rushing touchdowns in the second year of his career. Stewart's career since that point was filled with injuries and splitting carries, however, in 2015, DeAngelo Williams left for Pittsburgh and Stewart enjoyed his first healthy season in over three years. Stewart's 258 touches in 2015 was the most he's seen in his career, and with the lack of competition for touches in the backfield, a similar total in 2016 is likely.
While Kelvin Benjamin the type of volume (146 targets) he saw in his rookie season, he should still lead wide receivers once again in 2016, especially in deep targets. With Benjamin back, Ted Ginn will have a hard time finding the same type of role he found in 2015, though he will still see a significant amount of snaps. A player to see a significant role and target increase is Devin Funchess. Funchess had only 64 targets in his rookie year, and the 22 year old should see an increase in routes run in the intermediate parts of the field.
Greg Olsen led the team with 123 targets in 2015, and has had above 100 targets in each of his last four seasons with the Panthers. While Benjamin will be back and Funchess will be roaming the middle of the field, Olsen is in no danger of losing his role, and should be a top five fantasy tight end once against in 2016.
