2016 Miami Dolphins Outlook

Miami was a pass heavy offense, which led to the running game being nonexistent most weeks. Adam Gase is still going to keep the Dolphins passing, but I am excited for the draw run game he brings to the table. If he can get things a bit more balanced here, Tannehill and company should take a rise in efficiency. Miami also had a below average reception rate from backs, sitting at just 22%, this should creep up a bit as well. With the Dolphins averaging just 21 rush attempts per game last season, the occasional Lamar Miller game had to be hit on like striking gold. I am hesitant on saying there will be tremendous success somewhere in the run game, but an unproven Jay Ajayi has the potential to be a cheap FLEX player to target. Kenyan Drake is also a guy that might be worth a flyer if his touches take a rise at some point in the season. Now there are rumors of Arian Foster working out with the team. If any signing happened, Ajayi, and certainly Drake would get a bump downwards.

The Dolphins leaned heavy on the pass, and Tannehill leaned heavy on the wideouts. They racked up 62% of the receptions, which was well above the league average (55%). This resulted in another low workload year for Miller, and another down year for Jordan Cameron. Miami had the fifth least receptions for tight ends this season. With Gase coming in, I expect this number to go up a bit. Cameron is going to be a cheap flyer to take a shot on most weeks, and given his large frame, and downfield ability. There is tremendous upside for him, and we have seen it in the past when he remains healthy. If Foster signs, I don't mind the checkdown from Tannehill to Foster. This would open up a little bit more diversity, as Tannehill has become a bit predictable with his throws. Miami has a general offensive direction to throw the ball, and that should continue.
